They're telling us first Christmas, then New Year's then this and that and this and that, it never ends

In my mind, if you tell me you're 80% right now, that tells me you're not coming back until sometime in February, this is unreal

The standard recover for this knee op is 6-8 weeks, at which point a player can play but won't be at full strength due to conditioning issues, rust, weakness in the knee and aching. Look at Dirk, he had his op a little bit before Amar'e and still has a ways to go. Amar'e has been out 8 weeks- he's right where he should be.

My grip isn't that it's taking a while for him to return, it's that they're yanking us left and right promising first Christmas, then New Year's, and so on.

Late January is when I really expect him to play, but now I am hearing SI said he will play tonight, so who knows.

They're not though- they genuinely don't know- we're at the stage now where it all just depends on how his knee and body responds, before he can move on to the next step. It was the media who made up the Xmas day thing, then guessed new year.

Yea I hear you,

That's what my gripe is, with the media, they're jerking me around like I'm a shelter dog.

The whole thing is that we're hearing for weeks that he's right around the corner then he comes out and says 80%, I don't understand how he is 80% if he's been around the corner,

Thing is that there is a wide gap there and it just threw me for some loops,

Yeah, I share your frustration in that I want him to be 100% right now! I'm also annoyed that Felton got injured just as Amar'e is about to return- now we have to wait another month to see what this team really looks like.

I've given up on waiting to see what this team really looks like,

I think at this point it will just be a sort of rolling arrangement where we have some nebulous blob of a team and it will always shift around between some flexible boundaries, we'll always have the gist of the team but we will never have a concrete team,

I think we were designed to roll with the punches if you consider our roster make-up, and that's one of our biggest strengths,

I think we'll always surprise teams and we are difficult to prepare for because you never know which team you're getting so it's sort of a blessing in disguise,

Melo will kill you one month, then it'll be JR SWagnuts, then Amar'e, then Kidd, and you just don't know who will kill you,

We're built to roll with the punches

You gotta roll the dice on that, if we recall the "this is why you always go for a superstar" thread (http://mads.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=43391&page=1), we said that that you always go for the superstar because when it's good, it's really good,

the alternative is that you retain 'flexibility' but then you flounder like a fish in a middling hell for the rest of your life,

you tie that 200$ million up if you have the ability to, because when it's good, it's really good;

Season has many games left it's only january and we are rolling with the big boys so far, can't complain; let's get the heavy hitters healthy and pack some punches for April

Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Beginning to think that by saying he is only 80% Amare is justifying coming off the bench for the first time in his career until he is ready to start. Why else would he play in January at any less than 100%

if thats the case then good news!

Or he might just be 80%. You realize it takes a while to come back after having surgery and sitting out 6 weeks? Have you seen Dirk lately?

I think that he is probably at 50-70 pct for the rest of his career (if we are lucky)

There is no more 100 percent in him
