NYKB - JR Smith is not the player he was in Denver. Nor is David Lee the player he was in New York.

Kidd is not the player he once was...Asking him to bring it nightly at 39 yrs old for extended periods is a bit much...He now gets beat badly defensively...Kidd has lots of value..Trying to recreate 2002, 2003 isn't happening...

Anji - Have you noticed the more JR Smith handles the ball in the backcourt, the more comfortable he looks? His 7 rebound, 3 steal, 4 assist performance against the Wolves was his best of the year. Just to keep his critics quiet, Mr Smith also shot 50 per cent.

Are you sitting down?

Sometimes, added responsibility (and accountability) makes a better man. In order to inject the offense with more intuitive ball movement, start JR Smith at the point. Felton may sulk for a moment, but this is about how Mike Woodson adapts to the influx of new personnel... and winning over the long haul.

starters

JR Smith - fire
Jason Kidd - ice
Brewer - JR compensates for his lack of offensive juice
Anthony - 30, book it
Chandler - aided by Brewer inside, focusing more on hitting the glass

pine brothers

Prigioni - will find Novak
Felton - playing more like a two guard anyway, replaces Kidd the moment Kidd breathes heavy
Novak - will find better shots with Camby, an excellent passer
Sheed/ Amare - depending on the mood
Camby - will keep ball moving and rebound (see Novak)

No too thrilled defensively with that starting backcourt. Ideally, I'd like to start Shump with Kidd. Shump is flexible enough to cover for Kidd against quick guards. Plus, I think t will be good for Shump to get as much time with Kidd as possible. But I realize that's too much to expect from someone coming off of an injury. But for now, we need Felton in there to at least but up some resistance againts opposing point guards.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

Agree 100%

My playoff starting line up is...
Felton, shump, melo, amare and chandler.

That wins it for us.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Man, I certainly hope Shump gets back to 100% before the playoffs... I really want to see this defensive back court with Chandler in the middle... JR and Kidd off the bench..Mix in some Sheed, Brewer, Novak and Camby...Deep, pun intended..

If anything it's time to start JR, put Melo back at SF, start Kurt to open the game, and quit with this mismatch masquerade of a starting lineup.

Trickled down minutes. Copeland can eat minutes at SF--presently he gets none. Those minutes can trickle off any wing position causing J Kidd to play less minutes. J Kidd should be at no more than 25. And we can say J Kidd is a warrior et al--but age will humble any man and basing what happened in the past to now is a mistake. We have been down double digits at home in 3 straight games. I think good teams adjust on the fly and if we let this Brewer(not bringing it) J Kidd(production starting to fall off due to heavy minutes) its going to bite us. And for anyone to say observations are negative--get real. I want to win and Im sure everyone know matter what they are doing wants to improve. We have room for improvement with this solid deep team--not wanting to run Jason Kidd into the ground is not negative.

Very good defensive backcourt...My only concern is a backcourt of Felt and Shump doesn't space the floor much and might actually crowd the paint. making it hard for Stat and Melo to operate. Kidd's ability to hit the open 3 opens the floor up a bit...

I am sure Knicks team understands Kidd's limitations at this age

I'm on the belief that thats whats going on with wallace and Camby

Same here, I call it Clever Roster Management, you have to hustle everything in today's world, so the Knicks are on the hustle now.

I am NOT worried about ANY injuries to our guys for this reason

to me, Kidd played a very special role during the Twolves comeback game in which Melo got all the glory
I don't want to take ANYTHING away from Melo, he had a GREAT game, but we do not want to consistently play the live by Melo or die by 1v1 moves with no ball movement(JR Smith and Felton), or/and 3point shooting without others touching the ball.
We need all players to touch the ball every now and then, it just keeps everyone much more focused on both ends, and allows them all to get in rhythm and in sync with each other
If not, we rely too much on 1v1 moves, and become stagnant

With Kidd everyone on the floor know's he will not take a bad shot and will look for the open man, it becomes infectious
More importantly, the good shot's looks, allows players to time the offensive rebounds with the right angles

His calmness, ability to facilitate, direct player's to the right spots, and utilize all players on the the floor with spacing made the difference
If you noticed during that game, towards the end, he wanted the ball in his hands, because he knows hot to run a team, and attack the Twolves defense
Now, his STATs doesn't show what he brought that game, in fact they show NOTHING

When he had the ball in his hands he makes better decisions than ANYONE on our roster, and that is the difference
We do not rely on 1v1 moves, step back contested jumpers, and live and die by the 3pt line
The confidence the team has when Kidd is handling the ball is mutual, and it shows when we get quality looks and shots attempts
Especially vs someone like Felton or JR Smith taking low percentage shots
Felton has to learn to accept the role of penetrating and earning quality looks for his TEAM when his shot just isn't falling

When Felton, JR, and even Melo is playing the point role, the team does not know if they will be 3point shot, shooting a pullup/contested jumper, driving in to penetrate, and or looking to dish So to prevent any extra help defenders, the rest of the team would just look to space the floor, unable to read what they should do like cutting, and or going for offensive rebounds
Especially for Felton, since he is our "PG", is playing injured with his shooting hand, and still looks to shoot/score when his shot is not falling...

Merry Christmas to Andrew and Martin, everyone here, and their family's/friends

Going to run J Kidd into the ground before halfway point.
