But yet, Melo gets hit with 5 personal fouls tonight. More than LeBron has had over the past 6 or 7 games. Coincidence? I think not. Melo and our Knicks can't even get star treatment at home here in Madison Square Garden. Some "home court" advantage. Not for Melo and our Knicks it's not.
Miami on the other hand? Different story. I live here in Florida, and can't watch a sinlge Miami Heat game outside of a Knicks vs Heat matchup without being disgusted. Not because of greatness in which I seen with those Jordan led Bulls of the 90's, or even the great team work with both the Heat and the Pacers of the 90's, I'm not in disgust due to Miami having an elite 1990's type of Knicks defense either. None of that. I've seen much better. Much greater teams when compared to this current Miami team over the year. I become disgusted due to what I'm seeing unfold on the basketball court. Think it's obvious during a primetime game? Try watching a Heat vs Hordnets and/or Heat vs Pistons game. It's sad to see.
Miami was able to flop their way to an NBAchampionship during a shortened season. And Now they're being allowed to defend it while their superstar player can do no wrong through the eyes of the NBA and/or these refs themselves. Wouldn't shock me the least if LeBron has some of these refs in his back pocket, breaking them off a couple million each in order keep the refs off his back. He most def has enough money needed in order to do so. Wouldn't put it past him. Even when LeBron is called for a foul, it's not during clutch situations and/or game changing fouls. They'll hit LeBron up with a foul or two here and/or there; but with more like 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter, a non shooting foul while the team isn't in the penalty in order to "make it look like" fouls are being called on LeBron. It's obvious what's going on. But, when in actual reality? He's free to play free, without being in foul trouble. It's either LeBron himself breaking these refs off with an overseas account or Stern himself. One of the two. Wouldn't shock me either way. These refs love money themselves, just ask the NBA ref who fixed games in Tim Donaghy.
I know why Melo's getting hit with foul after foul too. Or at least have my own belief. And I respect him so much for this. He's too real to become fake on the basketball court. Plays with his emotion on his sleeve. Melo has too much respect for the game of basketball to insult our sport with ass kissing these refs. Basketball wasn't like this way back when. It wasn't invented for the scam that comes along with lots of these refs. Scam is the word that comes to mind. Melo responds when something doesn't seem right. He'll stare at a ref for making a mind blowing call. He'll open his mouth out of frustration and/or anger in regards to what's taking place. He has a backbone. He has a spine. I respect Melo for this. I'd rather us never win a championship the right way when compared to winning one the wrong way. He won't flop his way to a championship. He won't beg for the ref's support. He just laces up, hits the court, and plays ball. But not even Melo himself can hide the frustration of blatant NBA officiating.
I will say this though, Melo needs to focus on taking these calls with a grain of salt while always getting back on defense. If he's going to argue and stick up for our team and/or his teammates? Lets do so at a dead ball. No problem with that. But the arguing with these refs during the game only makes them see red. Melo himself then becomes the main target. LeBron nor Durant go through, what Melo goes through on the basketball court in regards to the refs. It's like they hate Melo.
This cant solely be the reason. Lebron cries to refs ALL the time despite the fact that he gets favorable treatment. Wade also shows a lot more emotion than Lebron when he feels he didnt get a call. Two seasons ago in the playoffs (or maybe finals?), he charged at a ref while he was walking away. Van Gundy, the crowd, and even Breen couldnt believe he didnt get t'd up. Then a couple of plays later, the opposing coach (either Rivers or Carlisle) gets a tech for a simple reaction less worse than Wade's. Its pathetic.
I have my own beliefs as to why all of this is the way it is, but a lot of people would just laugh it off so I won't go there.
In any case it's not just about LeBron and Melo, but let's leave it at that.
In regards to this situation it's genuinely apalling to watch.
Melo probably has more technicals this season than LeBron has personal fouls, granted I only watch a Heat game here and there (when going against good opposition and if there's nothing better on), but I've watched like 5 or 6 of their games this season and in each of them I was simply amazed at certain points.
I mean, even if we weren't to go into full detail there's basic logic in this. LeBron plays hard, and almost every time defends the opponents' team's best players and yet he doesn't get called for a foul? Not even once? Not even by a mistake from either LeBron or the refs?
Meanwhile I can't think of the last time Melo finished the game without a foul, heck even a game with less than 3. Now I'm not saying Carmelo shouldn't be called for the "right" fouls, but if the refs play him hard why the hell not LeBron (in this example, generaly he's not the only one).
And from watching every Knicks game except for the Memphis and the Dallas game at home I also can't believe what's going on at their games.
Not only does Carmelo not get any star treatment, he seems "targeted" by the refs on more than just a couple of occasions, and he's not the only one on the Knicks' team (I'm looking at you Tyson/JR).
The Bulls' game was particularly pathetic, but that's for another day, another topic.
I know the Knicks lose their temper, but apart from the factor that it hurts the team on the scoreboard I completely understand and agree with them, I'm sometimes just staring at the screen saying: "This is bull****".
Melo gets hit A LOT....A LOT, and yet the refs somehow manage to miss like 2 or 3 fouls on him per game almost, JR hit the floor more times than I can count, and that pent up frustration along with preferably some bull**** calls on the other end (like the Carmelo foul off the ball on Pekovič during the final minutes (5th personal)) leads to them showing some emotion, which leads up to technicalls.
But let's face it, the whole refereeing standard is (again, sorry for my language) complete bull****, it's like the players are prohibited from ever letting their emotion show. In a sense it's turning the game into an "emotionless" one and it shouldn't be like that.
Every slightest bit of contact is now a foul, every time you open your mouth, even if just for that one moment, you get a technical. Seriously what the **** is the NBA turning into?
Don't get me wrong I still love the game, not even Stern can take that away from me, but something needs to be done. I'm not saying we should let the players "kill" each other, but now it's like nobody can be touched, heck now we've got players prepping 2 hours before even going to PRACTICE, and wondering whether it's damaging for a player to play extended minutes. C'mon, unless the player is seriously old (just so happens the Knicks have 4 of them) you shouldn't have to wrap them in protective foil every step of the way, it's not like a young human body will just breakdown if you play a player over 35 minutes. I think Frazier made this point very clear and I applaud him for it.
To make the long story short, I love the game, but I hate the people in charge.
