Nash is kind of understood. Fans usually go off of reputation. Rubio, should not be ahead of OJ Mayo or Ginobilli. But Lin should no way in hell be 3rd! He's ahead of J. Harden, Westbrook, Mayo and Parker, Come on son! But I bet many won't call foul on this like the Melo MVP considerations.

I'm not concerned for Westbrook, his reputation in international play and around the league, the coaches will definitely make sure he's in as a reserve. But to exclude someone like Parker or Mayo, who are both having terrific seasons due being edged out by Lin because of possible vote count and lack of roster spots would be a travesty.

It's not just because of his play. Being in New York has a lot to do with it too. Same can be said for Deron who's having an okay year.

It's both. Play and he's popular.

all-star voting isnt really that important. Most of teh time its a joke anyway. The Knicks continuing playing the way they are is the most important

Allstar game is for the fans anyway.

Who cares if he is #1 in votes.

Believe it or not it's a great honor. The game itself is a joke, but being selected, is something the players take great pride in.

Exactlty. All-star voting and MVP awards are nothing compared to having an NBA title

i never said it wasnt a great honor. I have been selected as an all-star for basketball through my younger years and it is exciting. But for the knicks i dont care if only melo is selected as long as we win a title

Yes, for our purposes, we just want the end result.

All I'm saying, the players do care about it, for pride or whatever. Also, I'm pretty sure there's some language or incentive laden bonuses as well in their contracts.

Isn't it a given that Lin will be involved in some form during the All-Star weekend? It's being hosted in Houston of all places.

Fair enough. At least Yao Ming had decent numbers when he played his rookie season. Lin's numbers aren't even good as a rookie starting point guard, and it's his 3rd year already. I guess guys like Kyrie Irving or Damian Lillard spoil me.

i just dont see the big deal. he plays for a different conference and we all rather have kidd/felton than lin. I just kind of wish we could forget about him and focus on the knicks

Sorry, can't quit Lin.

But this thread is about the All star game so it's warranted.

Douglas and Lin are splitting minutes and Douglas is having a december to remember. The voting is never right but Lin pushing Paul for the #2 spot makes it clear this about the fans and not about guys performance.

2013 NBA ALL-STAR BALLOTING PRESENTED BY SPRINT WESTERN CONFERENCE
Frontcourt: Kevin Durant (OKC) 605,965; Dwight Howard (LAL) 434,168; Blake Griffin (LAC) 307,855; Tim Duncan (SA) 189,577; Pau Gasol (LAL) 139,868; Kevin Love (Min) 112,922; Omer Asik (Hou) 88,178; Rudy Gay (Mem) 85,279; Serge Ibaka (OKC) 68,285; LaMarcus Aldridge (Por) 66,290; Dirk Nowitzki (Dal) 63,056; Marc Gasol (Mem) 61,716; Zach Randolph (Mem) 59,916; Metta World Peace (LAL) 59,167; Anthony Davis (NO) 53,779.

Melo getting recognition due to his play so far. Chandler needs some help getting in, even though he's 5th in frontcourt votes. Amare at 10th and Felton is a longshot.

It was to be expected, but still surprising that Lin is getting more votes than franchise star teammate James Harden. If Tony Parker, Manu or OJ Mayo don't make the cut due to Lin, that's comical.

Not one single 2g in the east on this ballot..thats absolutely crazy..

I'm sure the coaches will pick kidd to be the oldest all star ever

ok, that is one take, another take is the allstar game is a huge popularity contest.. I like lin, but he is not getting all those votes based on his play being recognized.... carmelo is getting votes just like he did last year when his play was pretty average.. last year he got over a million votes. right behind lebron.. this year will probably be the same thing.... I wouldn't say this is any recognition of his play, as he could probably have an average start and still get a bulk of the votes....

The whole damn ALL STAR BALLOT voting process is ridiculous.

it is a popularity contest.... which is why I put less stock in guys being voted an all star nowadays... remember yao ming getting more votes than anyone and not playing one game due to injury..

2013 NBA ALL-STAR BALLOTING PRESENTED BY SPRINT WESTERN CONFERENCE
Frontcourt: Kevin Durant (OKC) 605,965; Dwight Howard (LAL) 434,168; Blake Griffin (LAC) 307,855; Tim Duncan (SA) 189,577; Pau Gasol (LAL) 139,868; Kevin Love (Min) 112,922; Omer Asik (Hou) 88,178; Rudy Gay (Mem) 85,279; Serge Ibaka (OKC) 68,285; LaMarcus Aldridge (Por) 66,290; Dirk Nowitzki (Dal) 63,056; Marc Gasol (Mem) 61,716; Zach Randolph (Mem) 59,916; Metta World Peace (LAL) 59,167; Anthony Davis (NO) 53,779.
Backcourt: Kobe Bryant (LAL) 639,419; Chris Paul (LAC) 353,603; Jeremy Lin (Hou) 298,319; James Harden (Hou) 196,108; Russell Westbrook (OKC) 143,437; Steve Nash (LAL) 118,073; Tony Parker (SA) 69,983; Ricky Rubio (Min) 54,744; Manu Ginobili (SA) 47,800; O.J. Mayo (Dal) 36,495.

Melo getting recognition due to his play so far. Chandler needs some help getting in, even though he's 5th in frontcourt votes. Amare at 10th and Felton is a longshot.

It was to be expected, but still surprising that Lin is getting more votes than franchise star teammate James Harden. If Tony Parker, Manu or OJ Mayo don't make the cut due to Lin, that's comical.

ok, that is one take, another take is the allstar game is a huge popularity contest..

New York is like China. A lotta voters!

Can anyone argue why Steve Novak and Jason Kidd should not both be in the 3 point shoot out?

Novak should enter without a doubt.
Melo 2nd in East All star votes, Lin 3rd amongst West Guards
