We're on pace to shoot around 2300 threes this season and we're currently shooting them at a 41% clip. Since 2000 only a couple of teams have shot 40% or better from 3 over the course of an entire season and all the best 3-point shooting teams take 2000 or less shots over the course of an entire season. I think we're over-reliant on 3-pointers and we really, really struggle offensively when they're not falling.

same concerns

I think the 3pt attempts will come down when STAT gets back as well as Shump. The only time when we have a post presence right now is when Melo posts up or when Wallace posts once in a blue moon. STAT will post up and Shump is more of a slasher. They're going to continue to shoot the 3 ball as long as they're open shots.

Stat can't post!!

Please! I can believe that we are 13-4 and people want him back - SMH

I think STAT will solve a lot of issues we have. Namely, another option for Felton and offensive continuity when Melo sits. I'm very excited to see how we look with Amare and Shump.

I was worried about Stat until he said he would come off the bench.

I have to admit, though the rebounding problem is something that he can't fix, there are about 20 minutes a game were Stat can put his head down and get to rim for points with us.

And that will help.

If he's able to work within the flow of the offense, a big if, I can't wait to get him back. When he comes back he immediately becomes the 2nd option on offense and will take shots away from Felton and JR, two guys who run hot and cold and love to shoot. If he comes off the bench it's even better because it solidifies our 2nd unit. It's honestly hard for me to imagine that a team with Felton and JR as its 2nd and 3rd options on offense could be a title contender but it's easier to imagine if the offense goes Melo -> Amare -> JR -> Felton.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Did he not spend time with Hakeem this summer working on his post game? Regardless STAT taking 15 shots a game is going to bring down the amount of 3 point shots.

Yeah we're 13-4 and I do want him back. Makes us deeper and better and if we have dreams of winning a title we NEED Amare.

Spending time with Hakeem does not make his a post player

Spending time witn Bill Russel will not make him a defender

I do agree that if his jumper is on and Woody figures out how to integrate him, he can be helpful (at times)

And you are correct. We can't win it all without an x factor. We cannot win in the playoffs with this recipe. JR will crash and so will Felton.

My sentiments too. Melo, Amare, JR and Felton gives us a chance in the playoffs. No Amare no chance

I can't stand all this lame talk about Amar'e being able to "fit in". What kind of BS is this. This man has been an All Star and had some great performances over his career. Amar'e more than Melo for the bulk of his career has been the ultimate team player in terms of fitting into a scheme and not slowing it down. STAT's game is not one built on hogging the ball. He's been the ultimate PnR PF so how is it so many think he can't work great on this team? It's up to the coach and the teams PG's to make it all work. IMO if you keep everyone moving there's no reason you can't excel with Amar'e on the floor. It's all about spacing, ball movement and execution. Let's knock off all the crap about Amar'e like he's some kind of scrub.

I myself personally knew exactly what type of team we had heading into the season during the offseason. Over on RealGM predicted we'd finish as the #2 seed. The only reason why I put Miami ahead of us, wasn't because of overall talent (that belongs to us) but out of respect for defending World champions. Made it known how we were on the verge of featuring one of the deepest, if not the deepest team in the entire league. Created a thread explaining (when fully healthy) how we're the deepest Knicks team we've featured since the 1993-1994 Knicks team. Also predicted we'd win the Atlantic Division for only the 5th time in Franchise history. Something in which we haven't done since 1994.

Time will tell with all of these, but also predicted that Melo would take home the MVP award while ranking top 3 in scoring. Predicted that we'd rank top 5 in offensive points per game (currently 4th). Predicted that we'd have the leagues number one defense in regards to points allowed. As of right now we're 8th overall (allowing 94.7 per game) but then again Indy is ranked #1 allowing only 91.1. There's lots of season left in order to make up a differential of 3.6 per game. When fully healthy Felton, Kidd, Pablo, Shumpert, J.R Smith, Melo, Brewer, Kurt Thomas, Rasheed, Camby and Tyson Chandler is going to lock teams the fk down come postseason play (hopefully we're fully healthy).

Last but not least, predicted J.R Smith as the NBA's 6th Man of the Year award winner.

Defense wins championsips, and under a defensive minded coach such as Woodson, our defense can bring a title home to New York for the first time since 1972-1973.

When judging defense you have to focus more on FG% allowed not points. Where do the Knicks rank in FG% allowed?

Not true. At the end of the night, points scored and points alllowed are the only stats that matter.

As of right now we're 16th overall with a FG% against of .447. But then again, we still have lots of time to improve in that category as well. But at the end of the night, points allowed is what MATTERS.

I don't think we are overachieving because if you look at what we have done so far, it is basically win the games we should win. And we won at San Antonio, which essentially made up for the blowout loss at Houston.

Being a great NBA team is largely about winning the games you ought to win, which means the VAST majority of your home games and road games against inferior teams (teams significantly worse than you). So the only aberrations there really are Houston (bad loss, though not an easy game, especially at the end of a road trip) and San Antonio (great win). Also, losing the second game of back to backs on the road are always understandable.

Plainly put, we are focused and taking care of business rather than overachieving. If you look at us individually, no one is having a particularly great season, or a season they are not capable of. Yes, Melo is playing very well, but it's not like he has not always been a great scorer.

If I had to name the biggest key for our early success, it's taking care of the ball, and I definitely think this is a sustainable thing.

There's definitely room for improvement. Namely, I'd like to see us rebound better. I think the offense will even out a bit in terms of fewer 3-pointers when we get Amare and Shumpert back.

So overall, I am obviously very pleased and surprised, but I just think we finally have a coach who demands focus and attention to detail, and we are seeing our talent and experience prevail over lesser teams because of this.

once we get to the halfway point then look at how we did with the playoff caliber teams can we really then begin to project.

For us to really contend Amare needs to be Amare within the context of what our offense is and can be.

Over the season some teams get off to fast starts and fade. Others start slow and come on late.

Who will we be?

and Melo's had one good playoff run in 10 tries. Doesnt stop you calling him the greatest ever.

Knicks arent beating elite teams in the playoffs without Amare playing some major role. If its Melo and supporting parts expect the same results we have seen over the last decade.
