He's on the court with our starters (outside of Brewer) more times than not ala ranking 2nd on the team behind only Melo in minutes per game (33.3 minutes per). 3rd on the team in scoring (13.6 per) behind only Melo and Felton. 3rd on the team in boards (13.6) behind only Melo and Chandler. 4th in assists and only averaging 1.1 turnovers game per game. CORE PLAYER.
Exactly. He came in tonight with close to 8 minutes left in the 1st quarter.
Hey, it's working, so no need to make him an official starter. We all know how important he is to the team, and some guys are just better coming off the bench for some reason.
He's embraced his role, and Woody's keeping him in games even when he can't throw the ball in the ocean. Because he's showing relentlessness on D, getting rebounds. That last two minutes of the game were JR's. Steal, blocked Biyo-tumbo, buzzer beater.
Loved the look on MJ's face when that step back fell like butter.
I just love being totally wrong about this signing.
JR's also not making those head scratching plays from last season that would make Woodson lose it.
I was thinking of that after my post. In the games I've been listening to, (and it could just be some Spiro homerhate) he's still taking ill-advised shots way too early in shot clock, and he's running out to the 3 pt line on 2 on 1 fastbreaks.
D and rebounding will cover over a multitude of boneheaded sins with Woody. AnswerMan has it right: Woody, via Red Holzman: On offense, do what you want, on D, do what I want.
Yeah, JR still gets a little shot happy (took twice as many 3pt attempts as Novak last night) but he's a streaky shooter and I believe Woodson will take that over some of his crunch time plays from last season where we were all asking "WTF?"
Earlier in the season even when he was shooting well I was a little uneasy with him handling the ball for more than a few seconds, but aside from his shot selection at times, JR is looking to set up his teammates and will pass up an open look to give someone else a shot.
