holfresh - if Melo is comfortable at the four on offense, who guards the other teams big guys at the same position, Melo or Stoudemire?

Would the unpredictable wear and tear on either Melo or Stat, going against elite power forwards, be worth it?

Are the audition minutes for Rasheed Wallace a test to see if he can handle more than 15 minutes?

Melo gets abused at the four, nightly...It's not an option of either/ or...We need both on the court...Rasheed can't come back after being off two years and have his legs back...It's going to take a year...Also, there is a reason guys retire...

Not having any insight to the psyche of any pro basketball players, I have to just wonder if they're

a) chomping at the bit to get in on the fun cause they know they got the goods
b) worried they might step in and be seen as the reason the fun ended
c) are fuhuckin happy, cool and still rich, just working to get healthy
d) are busy making their own, much scarier version of Uncle Drew movies
e) all of the above

Looks like the 3 headed monster is delivering. My analysis that the Knicks will reach the ECF if they produce might actually come true. With that said, the Knicks are an old team. This would be a make-or-break year. Before the trading deadline, the Knicks will know if they need to tweak the roster or not. Since Shump is our only asset, I see him being trade bait to get the right part into winning it all this year. Knicks are still a SG shooter away from the NBA Finals.

I was thinking about this. Would the Knicks actually trade Shump for a SG? Who would they target?

I personally would not trade Shump. He's too valuable and his shot was coming along last year. I think with a healthy Shump and a relatively healthy STAT completes this roster. Health is the key.

I would hate it also if Shump was traded but if it means a shot at the title then the Knicks have to do it.

We probably can't get this answer until mid-season. The perfect trade would have been for somebody like Kevin Martin. He is flourishing right now in OKC getting those open looks. He would look really nice opening it up for Melo in the middle.

Players are not commodities. The sense here is that Iman Shumpert loves New York and New York is ready to love him back. His style, his personality and his GAME are just starting to come into focus. Any thought of trading his enormous potential away should be weighed with the same shock and utter letdown felt by Raymond felton... and the revolutionary idea that Shump with a consistent jumper is an NBA All Star.

What is there left for him to add to his game?

He is already an elite defender. The word is out. Despite his shot selection being rookie-quality last season, Shump showed range and he showed excellent mechanics. He gets to the rack and he finishes with authority. He is strong and measures athletically at the top of the charts. He plays with passion. We love players who wear their emotions without compromise. His smile lights up the entire building.

Are you really so certain that you trade away a player like that before he has a chance to mature?

Trade Shump? *shudders at the thought of what that move would do to this board*

Place would become immediately completely uninhabitable. Mustard gas protection required at every login.

Unless, somehow, Shump becomes a Nugget and we get Gallo/Mayor/Moz plus picks.

I'm so dayum mean.

Can We Be Perfect?

The Knicks face the Spurs in San Antonio tonight and the Grizzlies in Memphis tomorrow, and those games are as tough as any that will be on their schedule all season. The Spurs and the Grizzlies are, essentially, the two hottest teams in the NBA right now. They're a combined 13-2 and have won a combined nine in a row; the Spurs won on the road against the Lakers on Tuesday, and the Grizzlies won on the road against Oklahoma City last night.

These teams are not messing around.

In come the Knicks, coming off a deeply unimpressive win over the Magic and a bit hobbling, with Ronnie Brewer missing practice yesterday. The signature ball movement, the thing that has made people believe that this Knicks team might be for real, wasn't there in Orlando, though, to be fair, Epcot can make people woozy for days afterward. The Knicks will have to be perfect once again to have a chance against the Spurs tonight. That's not a slight on the Knicks: It just means that this is a serious leap in competition.

We said earlier this week that if the Knicks went 4-3 on this little two week road trip, their fans should be ecstatic. They're 1-0 so far. If, 36 hours from now, they're 1-2, there's nothing to worry about.

And if they're still undefeated? OK, then you can probably go batty.

I'd really like to take both of these games but I think if this team is for real we have to take at least 1. That's not to say we're not for real if we go 0-2, but this would really make me comfortable that we're on to something.

We are on to something MSG3, NYMentality has it nailed.

No matter what happens in Memphis, the place will be rocking on Sunday.

The Knicks play beautiful basketball.

The kind of happiness I get from watching the Knicks play as an elite team in this league is very very new to me. As JR hit that late 3 last night i went crazy, and then thinking about it later a smile crept accross my face after realizing how much John Starks he has in him. John Starks, a reminder of past greatness....from when I was a child. This is amazing. Pinch me.

This Knickerbocker squad has fight. It would have been easy to let this one get away from them, but the team is now full of veterans who don't like to lose.

That's been the difference. Whereas the Knicks have struggled over the years to put teams away late in the game, they now have winners on board. Filling out the roster are motivated and experienced veterans who know how to win during pressure-filled moments, and it showed against the Spurs.

MSG3 - happy is good. be happy that the best is yet to come. The roller coaster is just pulling out of the station.

This Knicks team can beat other squads without their A game on offense because the defense is consistent. Another game with fewer than 10 turnovers.

The cohesion has yet to become consistent on offense. Prigioni is still searching for a balance between passing and being aggressive with his shot.

Ronnie Brewer is effective on both ends. His offensive rebounding makes up for the fact that Tyson Chandler cannot jump.

Rasheed Wallace is a great addition. He is long, active and brings effective scoring punch. Marcus Camby is experiencing his pre season. Once he gets adjusted to the defensive rotations, he will be a tremendous asset.
