Going for 7-0, for the first time, since the 1993-1994 season. And our comparison between those 93-94 Knicks and our 2012-2013 Knick team(s) continue. With the utmost respect to our old school throwback Knicks of the early 90's (those dues were my childhood basketball memories growing up), but it's just a surreal feeling being able to compare these two teams. Win for win. It's been a long time coming.
We need this one win against the Grizzlies, on the road in Memphis, in order to match our strongest start to an NBA season since our 93-94 team. A team in which featured a backcourt that consisted of Derek Harper, Doc Rivers, Greg Anthony, Hubert Davis and John Starks. A frontcourt in which featured old man Herb Williams, Charles Smith, our 6th man of the year contender in Anthony Mason along with Oakley and Ewing down low.
A very strong/special team they were, but I don't believe/remember our old school Knicks being as fully loaded as our current Knicks team, in regards to talent, deepness and overall depth off the bench that is. It's a weird feeling, because this happened over night. It took us one offseason to improve a bottom playoff team into a true Eastern Conference/NBA contender.
Ewing was surrounded by a very strong team, yes, but after Ewing the drop off began. Starks was the ultimate role player (something like a J.R Smith) but Ewing always lacked that second star in order to match Jordan and Pippen's led Chicago teams. Ewing carried cour franchise. Wouldn't let his team(s) lose. But this Knicks team of 2012-2013, it's loaded from top to bottom. Once Shumpert and Stoudemire return, production and team strategy aside; we'll then have one too many players, all in which can contribute. Which is a remarkable problem to have.
A win tomorrow night against Memphis, and we're in uncharted territory (as a franchise) at 7-0 come Sunday against the Pacers. There would be no better feeling as a Knick fan, than to head into Sunday's 12:00 afternoon game at 7-0 overall. We're approaching uncharted territory. It's uncharted territory because I'm not sure which Knicks team of previous years started off 8-0. 7-0 was the best I could find in regards to this franchise.
