I like Fields. I hope he hangs in there with the Raptors. But the guy severely regressed and his absolute inability to hit open jumpers was a killer.

I loved him his rookie year. maybe he didnt have pressure because he was an unknown second round pick but he was a ROTY candidate in the first half of his rookie year and then once he started to get praise he regressed bigtime

I did a search for Fields to check in on his stats. I knew he was struggling but there is a post/column on yardbarker that you can link to from espn that is just brutal. Apparently raptor fans are getting frustrated.

He's a decent bench player but he is not worth the 6 million per year that Toronto stupidly gave him. the funny thing is that Torono only signed him in order to get nash lol

Yeah but the guy that wrote that article even posted a video of a wide open layup missed while he was at Stanford. I can't imagine the reaction in NY if he was playing as poorly as he is in Toronto if the Knicks matched his contract.

I agree im not defending fields. Brewer is a much better and cheaper option than fields

I'll never understand what happened to him. His whole game was based around cuts to the basket and rebounding, two skills that are usually regression-proof, and now he looks like one of the worst players in the league. It's crazy.

It was very weird. In 2010 fields looks wise beyond his years as a rookie. He defended, he made great cuts to the hoop, and he even shot the 3 well

LOL.. if that is even a word... look at career numbers, fields first year or two here, he was pretty much a 50% shooter like brick brewer, but fields is just a much better rebounder, his numbers show it... and they are pretty much similar scorer... when right, fields is very effective and honestly a better open court player....I don't get the constant knocking of fields , it isn't going to make brewer.. this thread is just brutal.. really..

When Fields is right? Fields had a solid first half of his rookie year when he caught the league by surprise. From the second half of his rook season, through all of last year and the beginning of this season, he's been brutal. Thats a season and a half worth of bad-ball compared to a half season of being a good role player. So, which outweighs which?

BTW, spare the "Fields play plummeted when Melo joined the team" because last I checked, Melo aint in Toronto. But then again, according to you, Melo traded himself here from Denver, traded Lin to Houston, and fired MDA in NY. So, maybe Melo's reach does extend to Canada.

That was the rumor. Denver offered us the trade that was made but supposedly we had the option of keeping either Gallo or Fields. Personally, I don't believe it. I can't imagine that, when choosing between Gallo and Fields, anyone would ever pick Fields, even when he was playing pretty well the first half of his rookie year.

Maybe Fields over Wilson. I don't by it either. Gallo was the centerpiece. We kept Fields because he was the only SG on the roster and he is not even a SG. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the Billy Walker

not sure either, just odd, but i do think he will be fine.. I do find it funny how people are on the "brewer is much better" kick... I doubt many watched brewer last year or the year before.. he wasn't very good... and right now, I still see a guy who can't shoot and still misses layups... as soon as shumpert is completely healthy I expect brewer to lose a lot of minutes and thank god for that...

those were fan rumors when everyone was "ronnie brewer/ carmelo" like head over heels for fields... crazy stuff like he was better than gallo was being thrown around, because they knew gallo was a gonner and they were just revving up their hate engines... Denver always wanted gallo in this deal and I don't think they had much interest in fields.....

It will be interesting to see who starts once Shump returns. Brewer fits better with the starting lineup offensively because of how he moves without the ball. Shump might be a better fit with the 2nd unit. I'm sure he will start there anyway as the Knicks ease him back in. If Amare never plays again then you start both Shump and Brewer

For this team I think Shump would be better on the 2nd unit. He'll bring his D and will be able to help JR with the scoring load.

I liked this move from the jump, didn't expect him to shoot well at all, especially this well though. Brewer blows LF out of the water in basically every aspect.

I loved Fields' game before the huge drop off. He was just a great additional piece to have. Moved without the ball, tried to defend - sometimes was quite good, hit the open shot and most of all those cuts to the basket were a thing of beauty. And then after Melo came back he couldn't adjust and his confidence took a hit, not to mention the new shot.

Loved Gallo and is shooting like crap lately. Sometimes players just play well here and other times it reaks them.

Yeah. Brewer's D is much, much better than Fields'. His D is what he's about. He won't hit 3's all season like he has in the last couple of games, but his D will always be there.

Fields was pulling lots of rbs and slashing to the hoop. And a glue guy.

Until he started to stink.

Fields was at best an average defender even during his first year, brewer is a great defender
