The Answer Man Repeats, Lin Free Means Lin Free

NYKBocker"] I did not mention anything about Lin just where I stand.

nothing, zip, zilch, nada, nary a mention. ZERO. No even a word that starts with the letter L. Zip it. Zzzz...

Q. NYKBocker - You think they are re-signing STAT?

A. The Knicks will drop to their collective knees and give thanks if Stat is still able to walk in two years.

Q. NYKBocker - You think Kidd can more than 3 years?

A. Jason Kidd and Marcus Camby will retire after next season, next question.

Q. NYKBocker - Starks was a bulldog and did not back down. Can you say the same about JR?

A. JR does not back down.

Q. NYKBocker - How about the other vets?

A. No telling what 2015 will bring. Stoudemire will be using a walker, Tyson Chandler walks away to pursue photography and Kenny Walker is being interviwed for a coaching job. Besides, by 2015, with rising tides and global warming, Madison Square Garden could be sitting in six feet of water.

Yep... he is a bit short of a black hole... so lets call him gray hole.
Seriously why the hell the finisher should pass to anybody. Shoot the damm ball.
Melo will never be Kobe-like - no brain, no leadership, no determination, just talent and ego.
he will never be a jack-a..sss of Kobe proportions too. But who cares if you win it all.

Never see anyone criticize Durant when he averages 2.8 assists for his career.

Put Durant in the blue and orange and all of a sudden, he'll be a weak, 6'11 selfish perimeter player whose afraid of the paint and makes no-one better.

i agree melo gets too much hate but we cant compare durant and melo. I mean if i had to choose between the two i would have to pick durant because he is probably in the top 3 behind lebron and he is only like 23

Why Durant will give up the ball? He get it in position to put it in the basket because of the way his team plays.
When he will get older I have no doubt he will pass the ball more.
Durant stays in the system, he is accepting the role and plays what his team runs and because of that he does makes everybody better.
Assists is not the only way to make others better.
Melo has the ability to be as good as Durant or Kibe, but for some reason he is not using this abilities.
Wrong coaches, wrong complimentary players, wrong PG, Stat taking his space... Exuses, Exuses, exuses.

You do make good points. Melo definetly has show a lot to us this year and I think he will. He has come in camp in great shape and looks focused. I guess Lebron winning a title finally made him realize what he needs to do

It's a no brainer when Durant is 23. However, take look at Durant's numbers for his entire time in the league and compare to Melo's first 5 and the numbers are almost identical. If Durant doesn't have Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka he may be talked about in the same way that Melo was/is.

Let's jump in The Wayback Machine, all the way to the 2003 NCAA Champion Syracuse Orangemen. What help did Carmelo have? Gary McNamara? Hakim Warrick?

Get real.

McNamara was exactly what Melo is missing - lidership and heart. But now Melo is a big shark so he need somebody with lidership, heart, and authority over him to make him and his team win. Does our collective Vets-bunch have enough of this to save Melo from himself?

En Garde

"The makeup of our team is a team of guys that know how to play. That’s the difference when you’re not dealing with a young team. We’ve got a good mixture of young players. Our starting unit is a fairly young team, and we’ve got a mixture of veteran guys that are going to fill plugs in terms of being a nice piece to our puzzle." - Mike Woodson

“The way we’re playing right now, we are opening the court, and we’re letting Raymond do what he has to do to make guys better. It’s only going to help us when Amar’e comes back and gives us another option.” - Carmelo Anthony

“I think once we move the ball enough and get open shots, teams are going to scramble more. That’s when the inside play opens up. Or it’s vice versa, and we go inside for easy baskets, and the team sucks in, and we kick it out for an open 3-pointer.” - Amar'e Stoudemire

The most significant difference this season is that we have guards who understand what to do with the basketball.

Knicks will have smart, heady and a high distribution in their PG play. Especially on offense. Question is, can they get it done physically on the defensive end?

Knicks should have very good defensive rebounding compared to recent years.

Knicks should play much better team defense than in recent years...especially when the second unit is on the floor.

Knicks will be a bit more offensively challenged than the previous 3 years. Unless Stat/Brewer or JR can find range and consistently hit the spot up....or Felton can consistently break down teams off the dribble/drive/dish. Second unit on O is a question mark. Have good spot up shooters, but need to keep the reigns on JR if he starts getting wild.

foosballnick - great analysis but let's go to the videotape. Jason Kidd adds leadership to the second shift, which will temper JR Smith's need to go World B Free. Chris Copeland is flexible enough to dive inside from the three spot. (25 points in 26 minutes is 25 points in 26 minutes)

Although he will see limited minutes with The Pine Brothers, Kurt Thomas shot 47 per cent last season. The mid range j is a lost art. Blend in the leading three point shooter in the NBA, a diversified Steve Novak. What more lethal weapon could you want?

Did I mention we have Marcus Camby and Sheed (by Christmas) to bolster the inside/ out game?

The second shift has scoring. The only thing our second unit needs is five hyperbaric therapy chambers to recuperate in.

Maybe a proud 6'11 warrior named Sheed will be under the tree for Christmas. By then, Iman Shumpert's high top fade will equal Christopher Reid of Kid n Play.

Then it gets interesting.
