Kidd also bought a mansion in the Hamptons just last December. Could be looking to retire near his investment.

Melo is the captain of this team. Like it or not.

He drove one coach out. He's given his stamp of approval on the current coach. He initiated Linsanity, and peed on it when it was no more. Tough. It's over. Live with it.

Stat is a war horse with stupidity issues. Check.
Tyson is the DPOY. He's not going to carry a game, or the team. Check.
Kidd's a HOF on the very back end. Loads of credibility and a chip, but he's got no history or ties to the team.

Game's on the line, who is everyone looking at?

Nalod: Deron!

tkf: Gallo!

Bonn: a larger sample size!



Case closed. The man is the franchise now.
He's home. Time to dispel the all the ghosts and hate and whining and just win.

The team will respond to whoever leads by example and not wether or not they have a C next to their name. Chandler is the logical candidate for the title officially considering how he was named DPOY. Chandler also has to lead by not getting so many Ts. Since we have a squad full of league leaders in that department now that would be a good place for him to set the tone. We all know he will lead the defense.

Being captain gets you no special privileges from the refs.

The darkest moment of my life as a Knick fan was PJ Brown bodyslamming Charlie Ward, and the entire Knick team getting suspended for taking a few steps on the court. Ewing was in fact holding his teammates back but bam, he was out by virtue of having both feet on the hardwood.

So... I could care less about the captain piece.

Carmelo should be the captain by default, as the team's most talented player. Amare owns rights to it for one time being the best on the team - and for being the longest tenured Knick.

In a way, both of these guys should act as leaders from a pure talent standpoint.

But talent in itself doesn't make leaders. That's a different skill. You really want a personality that commands the attention of teammates and gets everyone focused and knows when to bark orders. That role usually is the PG...

We're going to just have to wait and see if he can lead a team or even (as has been quoted before) starving raccoons to an open garbage can. I'm a Knicks fan. I have to hope for the former.

There's training camp. There's a full season. There's no coaching woes. There's no deranged IT-era distractions (I hope).

Play the dayum games already! 98.7 baby! No static at all!!!!

All this captain stuff are for high shoollers...Who gives a rats anyway...I don't get a woody (pun) seeing a C on anyone's chest..Excuses have run out for all players on this team including Chandler...Time for him to step up and stop committing stupid freaking fouls...Time for Melo to put up and shut up...Amare the same...Felton, here is your second chance...Can't believe we signed JKIdd, who admitted he was here because the Nets didn't want him, and the rest of the over the hill crew...Time to step up to Miami and Boston...

holfresh - after watching Kurt Thomas in a few cameos last season you may be pleasantly surprised what he can still give us for 10 minutes. Splinters or no splinters, being named Captain for him and Marcus is the perfect Welcome Back gift.

It all about symbolism and tenure.

U can't name guys to captaincy on a whim, or who are not part of the integral fabric of the team...u risk losing the true leaders and the team...

True Leaders

holfresh - Marcus Camby (197 regular season + 40 playoff games in a Knicks uni) and Kurt Thomas (530 games as a Knicks enforcer + 45 playoff games in NYC) are more Knicks fabric than anyone on the roster.

That is no whim. Camby's slam dunk over Dikembe Mutombo in Atlanta during The Playoffs first round still gives me chills. Those two veterans of NYC helped carry the Knicks to the NBA Finals.

Can anyone on the roster top that?

You guys sound like a highschool yearbook club voting for the person with "Most Leadership Skills."

Who cares who is named captain. It's an empty title that doesn't change the power dynamics in the locker room. Does the captain get to wear a magical badge that mesmerizes the other players into listening to him?

In the end, it is still Melo's team.

Kidd messed up really bad with his dwi but I still think he is a tremendous leader. Kidd is the closest thing to a Messier type the Knicks have had in a long time. Hopefully he bounces back a bit in a regular, non lockout season.

Good Start. Weak Finish

Felton has a chip on his shoulder and a shadow wearing number 17 who is long gone.

JR Smith holds the John Starks Wild Card. If he gets loose, back up.

Melo is the enigmatic star. Improviser. He is attempting to reinvent himself, slightly. Can he?

Stoudemire is learning to be a supporting actor on fragile knees. Be careful out there. Please box out.

Tyson is the defensive anchor. Marcus Camby is his stunt man for 20 minutes. Camby is the better passer.


Kidd is an assistant coach. I knew Toney Doulas. Jason Kidd is no Toney Douglas.

Novak is the sniper. Labeling him "the white guy" is lazy. If he is on target, the Garden rocks. Assist - Jason Kidd.

Rasheed and Kurt are the enforcers. Don't get crazy with either of them.

Pablo Prigioni is no foreigner to good hoops. He is healthier than Baron Davis was last October. That makes The Answer Man happy.


Ronnie Brewer is our lockdown perimeter defender to be named later. We are fortunate to have him on the cheap.

Shumpert is the defender with the high top fade. Kid can play. See you in February.

James White is on the bubble with Klay Thompson and Chris Copeland. One stays. Two others get a free ticket to Erie.
