Patrick just recently did an interview with CNBC about his investments...Apparently he has done well financially...CNBC said he is one athlete who wont go broke...I didn't see the full interview just snippets...So maybe banking 100 mil and growing it, he doesn't plan on riding any buses to any obscure town, any time soon...

Pat should have done what most divas do, go buy his own team!

Lets not put too much into this guys, he is not quoted directly as saying he is insulted!

If he is, he should call Bob McAdoo and talk to him. HOF player riding the pine as a head assistant.

If insulted, has SVG actually gone to bat that he is ready or just the typical endorsement kind of quote for the Media?

"Old" timers, help me out: what was the CBA like and how did it relate to the NBA? Any of y'all follow it back in the 70s or 80s? Was it like an informal D-League, a small market minor league or what?

I'd love Pat over in Eire shepherding our yoots, getting them ready for top flight ball. But I'm selfish: I'd love to have overqualified — but not disgruntled — candidates at every level of the Knicks organization.

But I really don't know if Pat is over-qualified or not...

The CBA was the NBDL before our boy Isayduh singlehandedly ran it into the sub-basement underneath the ground. Prototypical minor league basketball. Riding buses. 250 people at the games on a good night. Hello, Johnny Starks!

I love Ewing. But he's been riding the Hoya Destroya mantle a little too long. Time to grow up.

The neverending victim entitlement mentality can be a terrible thing to watch/read about.

Pat was the least communicative player I've ever seen except for may Kareem. Can't immagine he even relating to today's youngsters much less giving a "motivational speech." I just can't see it.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Yea, there is a PR element to the HC job I don't see him embracing.

And to be fair to the big fella, the unnamed source said he was a "little" insulted.

'99 Finals - Sum total of Ewing's motivational communication: "Go get me a ring".

Don't exactly know why he wants to HC? Maybe because his big man training camps would lose out to Hakeem's?

Patrick Ewing 2011 Net Worth: $85 million.

Ewing has been an assistant for the [past eight seasons with the Wizards, Rockets and Magic. He was not retained when Orlando fired Stan Van Gundy. He has been trying desperately for an NBA head coaching position, but has been passed over so far.

Knicks assistant GM Allan Houston said on Monday that the team has found a coach for Erie, but declined to say who it was.

Let's see, Pat. How many teams have you coached to a championship?
Oh.
None?
How about to the Playoffs? Winning season?
Um.
Ok, how about a losing season?
A few games? None? Really?
I guess you must have had lots of offers to coach NBA teams, and just not the right one?
No?
Right. Ok. So you're insulted about a D-League coaching gig offer?
Don't really know what to tell ya, big fella.

The guy has more than put in his dues. It's usually the assistant who gets the job when someone gets fired and most times they don't have head coaching experience. Patrick has been a high level assistant on a very good team for years--one that went to the finals and help mentor Dwight Howard---has been to the finals himself twice(once hurt) playoffs almost his whole career --what exactly is he missing in his resume? I dont think Larry Bird Magic Johnson or Isiah Thomas would be coahcing in the D league---yes no??? Come on this is a joke. Dont offer him a low level job.

Why can't it be that he just does not have the personality that make teams wanna hire him as a head coach? Dues? It has nothing to do with dues.

I admire him for his ambition and have no idea what kind of a coach he has been.

I admire a man who has a net worth of 80mil who wishes to be a head coach.

Is it about coaching or being a coach in the NBA? Could he be an effective college coach? Is he motivated by power, leadership, winning or money? Not saying any of it good or bad but if he does not have the makeup to being a great coach then it won't work.

Today's NBA coach has to have some charismatic quality about them or a heavy winning cred. MDA was not the most likable persona but he bought a winning cred with him. When he failed to translate his ways to wins, he looked miserable and fans did not like him.

I don't know his strong qualities other than he had a great work ethic while a player. Is he a good x's and o's man? Motivator?

Being "Patrick Ewing" is just not enough to be a good head coach. Outside of the Van Gundy boys nobody has hired him! They owe him big and gave him an opportunity. Bringing him into the knicks because of what he was would have been a mistake. He would be a distraction and he would be called upon by the legions of starphuch fans to take over thinking his glory would translate. He knows it and thats why he wants in. Can't say I blame him. Knicks pay well too!

Maybe Im surprised the knicks have yet to try this. It sells tickets.

Ewing played his heart out for New York. If Johnson don't don't work out for the Nets I would love to see Ewing be Head Coach of the Nets. And even more lead his team to the playoffs. Yes I'm a Knicks fan but I don't like the way some of you guys are still treating the man. He played his heart out for all of these years and all some of you do is bash him. Believe me if Ewing got the head coach of the Nets many Knicks fans will be going to Brooklyn to support him and I will be one of them.

Good point. I have never had a problem with Patrick being hired by the Knicks as an assistant and maybe moving up to head coach if he showed that he could handle the job. I do have a problem with hiring him as the Knicks head coach for what would be purely sentimental reasons at this point IMO. There has to be a reason why no one outside of the Van Gundys will hire him. I thought it was a classy move on Houston's part to give him a shot to prove he can be a head coach. If Patrick believes he is too good for the job then so be it, hope he lands a job somewhere else and proves the doubters wrong.

Ugh Patrick associated with the Nets in anyway would be the ultimate gut punch. Worse than Dolan letting Lin walk for nothing

Lets be real, he was paid mighty handsome for his sacrifice and was given the keys to the franchise many times. He held it hostage when it served him best and when at the end he could have exited gracefully his pride got in the way and he forced his way out. I don't blame him for Laydens trade but the reality was he had little value and we had to take on salary to move him.

He is inshrined in the HOF, his number retired, and is remembered well for his intensity and warrior work ethic.

The franshise is haunted by the memory of making Willis Reed a coach mostly because he was "Willis Reed". A fine man indeed and a was a great link to the glory years. It was a starphuch and it failed. It tainted his cred a bit for a while.

LIke I said, its not like anyone else is beating down the door to give him a head gig and I don't think we owe him an elite position.

I could see Dolan hiring him say in two years if we faile to advance and go into a bit of a rebuild mode where expectations are low. A starphuch hire he would be to help attract fans in hope being "Pat Ewing" would work. That shyt gets ugly quick.

Allan Houstan who has about as much money as Patrick was an assitant to Walsh and is now the GM of the Bayhawks. He is learning the job. Allan Houstan is likley worth 50-100 mil and he ain't doing it for the money or the ego.

Ewing coaching the N*T's? I don't see that. I can see MDA doing that gig and running that team "euro style". I would Imagine most likely N*t's would not go either route as to even associate with Knick branding. For some reason I can see Phil Jax taking it on if you can pry his ass off the beach in Malibu. With Phil, I would not rule out Laker return if they don't do well. PHil in brooklyn? I can him hanging with "Hipsters"! The only thing in Brooklyn is Billy King seems pretty tight for now and Phil is a big I would imagine would want some broad powers.

Get over yourself, Pat
