Let's get one thing straight, despite what Amar'e says, he's had many years of defensive instruction. He's had a noted defensive assistant Marc Ivaroni. He had a training camp under Terry Porter who was brought in just because of his focus on D. He had Alvin Gentry try to get thru to him. Dan D'Antoni as well, who many have a low opinion of, but he's actually had players who defended at a high level under him. Just not Amar'e who NO ONE seems to have been able to get thru to. Woody was here the entire Season and so there is literally no excuse for Amar'e to not have played hard on D. At some point you can't point the finger at every coach you've had and not take any responsibility. He tried to blame his lack of D on MDA, but failed to note that other players on the Suns actually did defend at a high level on the very same team with him. He could easily have learned from KT when they played together or Marion or Raja Bell. Goodness knows he had Tyson to watch ALL DAMN YEAR!

I do cut Amar'e some slack for last year. I think Amar'e had back issues for longer than he let on and he was much stiffer and less agile. I think he finally got the right treatment for his back and he looked much better at the end of the season. I'm hopeful that he is doing much better and minus the pain can move much better this year. I'm not expecting Amar'e to become a great defender since he's never been one his entire career, but if he can give us a bit more than he did last year it would help a lot.

can someone tell STAT that its not the 1980s and he needs some full shorts!
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Nix was Iavorni the defensive coach in Toronto and Phoenix? Both of those teams really struggled defensively. Also Memphis improved dramatically after he left. I am not sure where he has put his 'defensive stamp' on a team. I know he had a connection with D'Antoni from playing with him in Italy. Also, I don't follow the Suns that closely but I think Porter was received in Phoenix similar to Nelson in NY after Riley. I don't think Amare has been taught d and I don't think it is a priority for him. He trains hard and comes to camp ready to be a ferocious finisher on offense. Rounding out his game and putting an emphasis on d would be awesome.

Its nice to hear that you cut certain players slack for their injuries in how it relates to their performance.

He got the right treatment finally at the same time that woody took over and thats why we saw the extra effort? Nice try. Fail.

I don't know what you think you're point is here. I grow tired of your constant lame attacks on what I post. Unlike you I ALWAYS able to back up what i'm talking about. You didn't say anything about all the other facts I posted but you want to key in on one small point you think you can get me on. To you and all the others on this forum that have made this a kind of sport to try and discredit my posts, so far MOST of you have had to eat crow when I post proof to back up what I say. When will you learn that i'm not some crack pot posting nonsense? My posts are valid and supported by evidence.

Amar’e Stoudemire received his epidural steroid injection yesterday for his bulging disk and did not travel with the Knicks to Atlanta.

Stoudemire’s reaction to the injection ultimately will determine whether the forward is healthy for the first round of the playoffs, which begin April 28, should the Knicks qualify.

The Knicks have listed a timetable of 2-to-4 weeks. With the epidural, Stoudemire has to undergo back-strengthening core exercises so he is less prone to reinjuring it.

Just like I thought. You have nothing to say really and you're not even man enough to admit you're wrong. I argued with CrushAlot and he asked me to back up something I wrote and when I did he had the character to admit that I was right. You however are a coward and continue to just reply with drivel when you get backed into a corner. I have absolutely ZERO respect for you and your posts.

Now understand i'm not saying you have to agree with me on opinions. Me and Crush completely disagree on things that are our personal opinions, but when it comes to matters of FACT, we're not allowed to create our own fake facts or deny the truth when it's presented. You have no honor.

For your information an Epidural injection is a big deal for someone with back pain. It includes not only anti-inflammatory drugs, but also pain medication which allows someone to be able to go thru the needed physical therapy and core strengthening exercise.

Looks like things are going well and Stat looks like he is taking his off season training very seriously. I don't expect miracles but if he can pick up a couple of reliable moves then it will have been worth it. Glad Amar'e is taking the initiative.

I agree with your first paragraph 100%. There really are no excuses. Like I've said a bunch of times, he wants to be one of the best PF's in this league but continues to decide against improving the one aspect of his game that people are critical over. I mean seriously, even before he became a Knick, he was criticized for his defense, and what does he decide to do in the off-season? Develop a three point shot.

I enjoyed the video, and I'm glad to see he is working hard this off season and determined to give us more than what he gave last season so I guess I will just have to be satisfied with this.

Maybe he should have worked out with Rodman instead?

I'm really excited to see what happens if STAT and Tyson can actually absorb a good deal of what Hakeem is teaching. If Tyson in particular could add the jump hook he'd be pretty lethal at his size. I'm not expecting miracles, but just being able to have go to moves would really push this team to new levels. As it is I think the East is really gonna be tough and so we need every edge we can get.

If Tyson Chandler shows up in Houston, and learns one post move from Hakeem, it is just another sign the Knicks players have dedicated this off season to getting better.

Amar'e already has the shooting touch and I think he has a really good chance to develop a lot of these moves. It's not like Amar'e never showed the technical skill, it's been more about the footwork. A turnaround jumper from well within his range should be a killer weapon. I'm excited to see how he does in adding this stuff to his game.

The fact this all this out there about Amare meeting with the Dream and then a youtube video to follow...I really hope this isn't an offseason media stop for Amare...LJ is in camp and was a solid low post player in his own right...LJ better developed his low post game after his back injury...One would think LJ and Amare would be a natural fit given the personalities and players whose game changed from an athletic PF to a post player....We will see...

Amare has been in the league 10 yrs and has never developed a post game. Im not holding my breath. Some guys just don't have the skills to be an effective post up player.

If Amare wanted some post moves he could easily work out with Carmelo Anthony.

Blake Griffin has more post moves than Amare.

Amar'e is a very serious guy about his career and off season training. He may be exploiting the Hakeem workouts for his business aspirations outside of BB, but he is in fact very committed to his game. There is no reason to doubt this guy when it comes to his work ethic. He may not always focus on the right things, like his defense, but he does in fact put in the work to be in great shape and come back from injury.

Amar'e actually looks pretty comfortable already. If he can keep drilling these moves and get them to be part of him and instinctual, he's gonna be a monster from anywhere on the floor. Here's a news story on him and Hakeem.
