Oh and Jerome James
Lets talk about how Layden almost wiped the slate clean with expiring and keeping draft picks (closest thing to a rebuild moment) and then mid year (who hires a new gm mid year unless its a starphuch) Isiah comes in with Dolans checkbook and proceeds to build around Marbury spending money and draft picks like they were stolen!
That should keep it going the rest of the summer!
Same conversation.
Every body loves to pile on Layden (but Nedyal)cuz thats the easyone!
After the Dice trade we could have rebuilt! The impatient petty little man could not communicate with his public.
Never hear the little dude speak. All he had to do was tell the fans we are "rebuilding and let the contracts expire, draft players and develope and then sign free agents to fill in". Layden was an introvert geek and the wrong man to have.
So he hires the starphuch fluff in Isiah and the rest is history.
Since then its once clusterphuch of insanity. Even when we have good teams we have the wrong coach! Or is it the right coach with the wrong team?
Please don't tell me you're comparing bad with worse again.
Layden set the table way before Isiah could put his stench on our once proud franchise.
Some of Layden's Highlights:
In June 1999, the Knicks made a spectacular run to the NBA Finals behind Marcus Camby, Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell. San Antonio put an end to the title hopes, but Knicks fans were excited about the future.Since then ...
September 2000
* Patrick Ewing is traded to Seattle for Luc Longley, Vernon Maxwell and Glen Rice. Fans discover the Knicks were better with their aging but still vital presence in the middle.
August 2001
* Three-team deal sends Rice to the Rockets. Knicks get Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson, two players with hefty long-term contracts who have contributed little since.
Fall 2001
* Larry Johnson is forced to retire because of persistent back problems. Longley, who never contributed, follows suit.
December 2001
* Coach Jeff Van Gundy abruptly quits (above), even though the Knicks were winning at the time. Was it burnout, or did he see the future?
summer 2002
* Layden re-signs Houston to a six-year, $100 million contract, bloating the Knicks' salary cap and luxury tax woes.
June 26, 2002
* The beginning of the end for the Layden era. He pulls a draft night trade, acquiring Antonio McDyess for Camby, Mark Jackson and the draft rights to emerging Brazilian star Nene Hilario. He also gets Frank Williams. But McDyess is lost for the season in an exhibition game and Williams plays in just 21 games.
Spring 2003
* Coach Don Chaney's contract is extended through 2006, the second time management extended his contract since he replaced Van Gundy.
June 2003
* Fans chant ``Fire Layden'' at the NBA draft, but he appears to get two prospects, Georgetown's Michael Sweetney and Polish youngster Maciej Lampe. He later signs Dikembe Mutombo to a two-year free agent deal, effectively meaning both draft picks will sit.
That's mismanagement at it's highest level. Gold standard type stuff. You hate Dolan, you hate Isiah, we get it(for the millionth time). But if you're going to place blame, make it universal, don't excuse Layden's era. He set the tone for the downward spiral, and I doubt Dolan's hand could've been involved every single lousy move listed here.
