They (casual) flocked to Linsanity in amusement and think Melo is superstar because he is marketed like one. The casual fan flocks to the story because it is entertainment.
If the Knicks become seriously relevant in the world of sports you will have to share them with the casual. Will the long suffering "UK" crowd stand up and say "hey, were were you during the Rory Sparrow Era?", or "If only Jackie "Blue" Butler kept his weight down!" and think you'll be special? You won't. Kids will proclaim the kNicks as their favorite teams and all the bandwagon will get full. Make room and enjoy the success.
How you start a new generation of fans? It starts with a "MOMENT" they can remember and feel good about. For some it was Starks head butt, the dunk, Larry's 4 pt play, Houston's miami shot, etc. Big game with purpose create moments. Winning a playoff game in 11 years don't do it. Nor does regular season "Moments" but it don't hurt either (Linsanity, DLees improbable tip in). Think about it, most of you are fans because of a "Moment" and it was during an intense playoff run. For me it was the 1971-1974 Knick Era that galvanized it. I watched Earl in Baltimore. I saw "Alcinder's" rise and Wilts decline. I felt Bostons improbable return with Cowens in 1974 dethrone the Knicks. And it hurt! They Traded Clyde. That hurt.
Knick fans are already in place. We talking the causual.
I do admit, im a bigger fan of Prokorhov than Dolan. The man is self made and has a plan. Don't know how it ends up of course but thats the fun of it all.
President of Nets:

Dolan fired Checketts because he wanted to show the world what he could do. He did.
Nalod since you're always so bitter about the Knicks and Dolan can you do us a favor and just go root for the Nets? While you're at it please use their forums to express yourhate. It's no fun having haters on our forums. I will support Dolan and Knicks forever. Bleeding Blue and Orange
all the way.
...wait, Hump got a $12M per contract!?
And to think, that's only the fourth worst contract Brooklyn took on this offseason. Joe Johnson $90M over 4 years, Brook Lopez $60M over 4 years, and Gerald Wallace $40M over 4 years are all much, much worse. At least Humphries' contract is only for 2 years.
And yet they seem to be getting nothing but praise- if we had signed the same players to the same deals, we would be a laughing stock.
It's like when you read the offseason reviews/grades, and the same writer will say: Ray Allen- great signing! Steve Nash- great signing! Jason Kidd and Marcus Camby- oh! They're old! The Knicks just got older! They're 40 years old! Ray Allen and Steve Nash are old too, and could just as easily be washed up in a season or two.
