good thing we sacrificed out future to go all in the next two-three years then?!

i don't understand the mentality that this team is built to win now, but hey not win that much. if that's the case, i'd rather be building for three-four years from now with gallo, wilson and lin.

+1. We are not a "win now" team; we are a "now" team.

Stop being so negative

Not negative. Im a realist and understand context.

And, I'm ok with it

You are here at UK - where everyone is a self-declared realist

Everyone has a right to make any declaration they want - this is america.

I guess you shouldn't declare that you are carrying explosives

I see his failures to win magnified and celebrated by the media.

Winning cures all. The media used to kill the Giants for the Eli trade. Now he's EliTE.

Gallo, Wilson and Lin - we all blindly love our yoots

We are an excellent team, we are built to be very strong this season. Unfortunately, there is Miami blocking everyone - just like chicago blocked the knicks of the 90's every season. So, should we be stupid and not try to win now since miami is so good? Or should we be like the 90's knicks and give it a shot?

so this guy walks into a bar with a good buzz going on and see's a sloppy-drunk fat chick and a smokin hot babe.

Good luck with the drunk fat chick dude, i'll be chatting up the hot babe.

Should we just hand over the trophy to Miami for the next 3 years?

Absolutely not!! Its my prediction.

As I just said in another post to dispute a claim that we should not build for now since we can't beat Miami anyway:

We need to try just like the knicks did with the bulls in the 90's. Who knows, upsets happen and maybe that can be us. You never know - we gotta try.

That's right. I think Martin's in the bathroom - now's your chance to go to talk to that hot babe at the bar! (although I think fishmike's advice would be to stick with the drunk BBW).

You forgot Moz!

Will people keep singing this song when Gallo's out of the league, Wilson's MVP in Turkey and Lin's playing on one leg in benefit tournaments with Yao Ming?

Sure they will. Because it's based on "realism."

Our "future". Our "potential". Always three to four years out. Always young. Sing with me: "There's always tomorrow..."

in order to win a title we need melo to have a MVP type season. I think melo is more focused than he ever was because his buddy lebron has finally won and now the attention will be on him to win a ring.

If we can play great team defense against Miami and have a fluid offense we have the pieces to compete and beat them. But with our age health will be a huge factor. We have leadership, defense, bball IQ and star power. Just have to be healthy come April and stay healthy.

I think its important to remember that everything broke right for mimai last year. I mean they will still be really good but i dont think they will be as unstoppable as people say. Lebron had one of the best years i have ever seen. I dont think he will repeat that because he has finally won a title and the pressure is now shifted away from him. When we face them again i think we will be healthier than we were in the playoffs. we now have brewer and camby to go along with tyson/shumpert and remember miami still doesnt ahve a good inside game

Summer time Melo love bump. Old article from the Dime:

...since the 1986 Playoffs only 21 other times has someone scored 40 or more points with their team facing elimination. Anthony just turned in No. 22. The rest of the list reads like something off a discussion about the top 50 players of all time: Dwyane Wade (twice); Dirk Nowitzki; Paul Pierce; Chauncey Billups; Shaquille O’Neal; Allen Iverson (twice); Ray Allen; Tracy McGrady; Reggie Miller; Anfernee Hardaway (twice); Hakeem Olajuwon; Clyde Drexler; Charles Barkley; Michael Jordan (twice); Patrick Ewing; and Sleepy Floyd.

In other words, if you’re going to consistently rip him for only getting out of the first round once, you need to acknowledge when he does produce some history on the opposite end.

2009 NBA PLAYOFFS, GAME 4 OF THE CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS VS. DALLAS
41 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, Dallas wins 119-117

2009 NBA PLAYOFFS, GAME 1 OF THE CONFERENCE FINALS VS. THE LAKERS
14-for-20, four three-pointers, 39 points, Lakers win 105-103
This was perhaps his most memorable showdown with his good friend, Kobe Bryant. The two defended each other for much of the second half, including a few post battles that were more back-and-forth than Mayweather and Cotto. Bryant said after the game: “It was a lot of fun, he’s a bull down there. I am a little out of my weight class, but I’ll give it my best shot.”

2010 NBA PLAYOFFS, GAME 1 OF THE FIRST ROUND VS. UTAH
18-for-25, 42 points, Denver wins 126-113

2012 NBA PLAYOFFS, GAME 4 OF THE FIRST ROUND VS. MIAMI
15-for-29, 41 points, New York wins 89-87

2011 NBA PLAYOFFS, GAME 2 OF THE FIRST ROUND VS. BOSTON
42 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, Boston wins 96-93.
He had 17 rebounds barely a minute into the fourth quarter, and somehow found the time to dish out six assists even as he was carrying an offense so thoroughly that afterwards, he laid out in the trainer’s room with multiple hands working to break down the aches in his legs.

I know, I know. If he wasn't so fat and unmotivated, his legs wouldn't have cramped up.

Thread-related input: Carmelo gets us to the second round.

Extropolate the Melolympian into the Knick not fair. Melolympian only plays 15 min off the bench to catch and shoot and hoist mostly 3pters.

On Knicks he is the primary option playing 38-40 min being asked to also drive to the hooop and rebound.

All without Kobe or Lebron or other allstars.

Melo with have a good/great season but in all fairness its how good his team is.

Same is true about every other NBA playear!

One of his best seasons with his hot finish last year. Plus, he should be in better shape from the usa team and motivated by the talent around him.

Things are tailored much more to him now than last year so there's no reason for him not to have a great season. Melo won't be asked to do anything that he doesn't love doing. He's got depth around him. Not a lot of shooting but the increased post play should help. Woody is the one that really has the tough job of helping to create space for Melo to operate. How he does this is the question.
