Nets market their 'Core Four'

NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets are introducing their fans to the "Core Four."
The Nets unveiled a "Hello Brooklyn" marketing campaign featuring Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace on Monday in their new borough.

The campaign features advertisements of the stars, along with a personalized message that "enables fans to learn more about their hometown team," according to a press release.
"We are delighted to continue building a connection between Brooklynites and the players on their new home team," Nets CEO Brett Yormark said in a statement. "This phase of the 'Hello Brooklyn' campaign is a creative way for the players to share something about themselves in advance of their debut at Barclays Center this fall.

"It's clear from the big crowd at our recent public celebration at Borough Hall Plaza, as well as our successful ticket and merchandise sales, that the borough is excited for their Brooklyn Nets. We're thrilled to be part of the community as we get ready for opening night."

Examples of the ads include:

• "Hello Brooklyn. I'm #8, Deron Williams, three-time NBA All-Star and father of four."

• "Hello Brooklyn, I'm #7, Joe Johnson, six-time NBA All-Star and lifelong Razorback."

• "Hello Brooklyn, I'm #11, Brook Lopez, 20-point scorer and Batman's biggest fan."

• "Hello Brooklyn, I'm #45, Gerald Wallace, All-NBA Defender and offseason fisherman."

Billboards will also be put up at the following locations (among others): on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway; by the Manhattan Bridge; Atlantic Avenue and Eastern Parkway; Kings Highway and Utica Avenue; 86th Street and 4th Avenue; and Surf Avenue.
The campaign will also include digital and social media components and "subway station domination signage" -- which begins in August.

The "Hello Brooklyn" marketing campaign is the second phase of a three-part campaign before the team begins playing in the $1 billion Barclays Center. The campaign began when the Nets unveiled their new brand identity -- including their new logo and color scheme -- on April 30.
"This one now is the launch, just, as I like to say, 'Putting the face to the name,'" Nets chief marketing officer Fred Mangione said. "Now that we know what our team looks like, and we made all the signings, basketball operations did what they needed to do to put a great team on the court, and we're now putting names to the faces where the borough will have a chance to get excited about this new team in their area."
The Nets will now be battling the New York Knicks for the allegiances of fans in the metropolitan area.

"Our goal is to own Brooklyn," Mangione said. "We want to turn the Brooklyn Nets into a global brand, so it's not just in the tri-state area, but it's globally and internationally. But we try not to get caught up in (Nets vs. Knicks). We leave that to the fans and the writers to get into that.
"We have a long ways to go. We have to win some ballgames and we have to get the people in the market excited about us, and we think this is the first step towards it."
Since Williams tweeted that he was staying with the Nets on July 3, the team has sold more than 2,500 full season tickets, according to a team spokesman.

In the offseason, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has invested over $300 million dollars into the roster -- approximately $287 million of which will go to Williams (five years, $98 million), Johnson (four years, $89 million), Lopez (four years, $60 million) and Wallace (four years, $40 million), assuming they stay throughout the duration of their contracts.

I'm a HUGE KNICKS FAN for many years now and I've been reading all the posts on this formum for a long time now and just have a question. Why are all the desperate NYETS fans always posting things about NYETS here? Do you need attention? We do not care about you or Brooklyn. We are on Broadway and we're happy with our team and are not interested in the NYETS. Even on ESPN radio it seems that all the commentators always have something negative to say about our Knicks and always seems desperate to promote the Russian NYETS. Posters like Bonn1997 seem to be always talking about NYETS as if we should care. Please post comments about them on their forums because we are not interested. It's becoming very annoying and some posters are clearly NYETS fans who are looking for attention.

NYETS fans should wonder why their players are paid so much when most of them are not worth their contracts. Wallace is almost 35 years old and he got a $10 mil per year contract and they gave up a #6 pick. They need to worry about all that money they gave DW who is a good player but hasn't been able to take them to the playoff so far and Lopez with broken bones a couple of times last year appears to have hit the lotto and JJ is 33 making over $22 mil per year. Go think about it and please stay away from our forums.

Aside from stating the obvious here, we struggled to beat the Nets every time we played them last year, we improved but they improved more with Johnson, a healthy Lopez and some added bench depth.

The Knicks are and will be a ****ing embarrassment till they accomplish something. We have guys like Melo and Amare who always talk tough, but then forget to play defense, pass the ball come in out of shape. So until we win something like a ****ing championship we are still one of the worst oganization in the NBA. Winning one playoff game and celebrating like it's an accomplishment is disgraceful. This team should be right at the top of the conference, but we make excuses as fans, the players have excuses, ownership has excuses.

The Giants actually are one of the top franchises in the league and have won titles in the 80's 90's and 2000's. The Knicks can't make that claim. It's one of the big reasons our team often follows our owners lead. Being concerned with what's happening with other teams or what the newspapers are writing instead of taking care of the house.

you call the Knicks an embarrassment but, the Nets get a pass for sucking ass for decades, and for only being good for JASON KIDD'S tenure is not something to be proud of either. We have had our ups and down and right now we are on an up-swing regardless of what happened to the guy who is no longer a Knikc. To call this team an embarrassment makes me wonder about your fandom. Call management an embarrassment but, please don't say that about my Knicks because, the guys we have on the squad have and will play their asses off for us.

Sure, they had a good run with Kidd but, what have they done since other than lose out in free agency. You want to compare the last 12, how about the last 20years of suckass for Jersey. You don't get props for being a short "blip" on the radar screen. And you definitely to get props for not having any championships, no matter how long ago they were.

How suckass is it for them to open a new arena without a single championship banner to go along with it. With Brook Lopez as one of your draws.

"Hello, I focus so much effort on my comic book collection I don't have any energy left to jump for a rebounds.

He didn't give the Nets a pass, he said they have been better than us over the last 12 years which they have despite a couple of 17 win seasons. I completely agree with MS, the Knicks have been complete garbage since JVG. We have had our stars that are all talk, low effort and no results. While some of you like to win a 1-4 playoff record like a badge of honor, others actually want more.

I agree. The Knicks need to seriously consider their personnel moves. They seem to be spinning their wheels without any real game plan as to how they are going to challenge for a championship. With Donnie Walsh they had a plan, even though it was one I didnt agree with. But that was until Donnie walked away because of Dolan. I believe Grunwald at one point or another is going to do the same. They have got to get Dolan under control and muzzled and start to take control of this thing because this team is going nowhere fast.

You'll probably see alot of Brooklyn Nets posts now that they're considered a NY Team geographically now. Probably alot more media coverage than before in the local papers and sports websites. That answer your question, Subzero0?

These "Nets fans" get themselves quickly embarrassed when they try to puff up their chest around me. I've had to air a few of those flip-flopping, fickle, wannabe Nets fans / Knicks haters during those basketball chats at the barbershop (located only a few blocks away from that abomination Barclays Center) recently.

The Nets can be the convenient team for Knicks haters to run to. All that team is the same crew who piled up losses last season plus Joe Johnson. Now, all of a sudden they are some "feared" team? GTFO... hahaha... They'll never rule this city, and will ALWAYS be second place 'round here, despite how heavily they market that team. KNICKS 4 LIFE.

I agree with everything you've said my friend. The Nets will never get my love. Even when they had JKidd and went to the finals twice I never had the urge to sit and watch a whole quarter much less a whole game. The love I have for the New York Knicks goes deep. It's even worse now that the NYETS are so desperate and are always trying to get the pseudo Knick fans. That Russian owner claimed that he would turn Knicks fans into Nets fans. Everybody that I know Love the Knicks and hates the Nets.

We're in a different period right now. Thorn isn't running the Nets, and Kidd is now a Knick. We may still have an ******* for an owner, but if you can't admit Grunwald is doing everything in his power to make the Knicks a contender, then you have your hater blinders on. Knicks will forever be the one of the iconic franchises in the NBA and in New York, as long as, MSG is still on broadway, as long as Ewing, Debusschere, Clyde, and Reed jerseys are in the rafters, as long as team colors remain the traditional Blue and Orange.

Grunwald should become the Executive of the Year next season.

Bottom line is y'all be watching opening night with great interest beacuse a rivalry is built.

Dolans needed the Nets ownership support to get approved when they bought the team so they gave up the rights to keep them in New Jersey and Nets free to move inside anywhere but Manhatten.

Owners were weary of big cable owner buying the team and afraid they'd make too much money and outspend them.

Thats funny! The league benefited from the knicks being the depository for bad contracts!

I am freaking stoked about this rivalry. The knicks have to earn what good will they took for granted.

IM tired of this "Mecca" bull shyt and "worlds most famous" bull Shyt when the knicks have not produced a champion in almost 40 years!

The Nets are in a prime position to grab the city.

I don't laugh at nets as they could be pretty good. If BroPez can stay healthy they are a strong threat at all positions. They are a balanced starting core with no Holes.

They are small but fundamentally constructed.

We as fans often over look the sum of the parts. Knick fans overestimate because we add "Names" and the chemistry has not been there.

We than hate on the media who pours cold water on our starphuch but then watch it all come to fruition.

Nets have the names and we'll have to see what comes of it.

Im not laughing at anyone until we eclipse them.

In time it all gets sorted out.

Nets aren't grabbing anything. They'll have to resort to gimmickry and promo nights like "Star Wars" night or "Asian Heritage" night like in Citi Field. Maybe do some obscene season ticket deals. Otherwise, Brooklyn based Knicks fans will remain Knicks fans. NJ Nets fanbase was pretty non-existent. I know I used to sit in those empty seats at Continental/Izod arena for cheap tickets just for the hell of it. Even when the Nets were making those Finals runs, you could still see plenty of empty seats, and hear the artificial crowd noise through the PA system. Nets will not overtake the Knicks in this city, not in our lifetime. If they somehow land Dwight, then we'll revisit...

Winning my friend. Winning grabs market share.

You can talk all youwant about the past but thats now what is in front.

If they lose its not because Mike Giminski is the starting center, or Mike O'Koren is the 3.

All im saying is they have money and the savvy they have not had in the past.

Yankees have 27 championships and a boat load of pennants to turn there nose up at the Mets.

Knicks don't have that.

Giants have 4 super bowls in 5 trips. Jets did it last in 1968 with that Namath fella. Giants had some good history before the superbowl era also.

Storied Franchies have many "STORIES". Knicks "Story" lacks fresh content.

Im Still here as a Knick fan but Im not oblivious to Net potential.

Dolan made Grunwald hide in the closet so he could not get the Lin offer. That shyt makes me sick. Im sick that Dolan makes his underlings have to swallow their pride so he can play "Owner".

Dolan is really testing my patience at a time in history they have some competition.

Im glad that idiot pretty much keeps to himself.

Im just saying now, as I have the last 10 years it all gets sorted out on the court and you get wins or losses.

The Nets HAVE been a joke. If you have not noticed, we have been too!

The city is up for grabs.

Nets on paper don't look like a championship team to me and I'd like to think we are better but on paper I can't imagine we go all the way with Felton. I like felton and glad to have him back.

I thought our upside ceiling with Lin was higher. How high?

We'll have to see won't we.

Grunny was instructed to hide in the closet. That makes me sick!

As I mentioned the Nets made 2 back to back finals with Kidd, no? For some reason, it didn't really resonate that much with the tri-state area, what makes you think it will now? Now if you were to bring in Dwight Howard, who's a bonafide superstar in basketball and in stature, the argument might change. Nets 2 finals, owned the Knicks in the 2000s, yet really couldn't grab that market share. Do tell how they will grab it now?

P.S.-Maybe they should build a Shake Shack in Barclays, I'd go just for the food.

Your right about New Jersey sucking it up with its fans.....

and New Yorkers not jumping across the river.

Maybe Dolan is right and you have to starphuch to succeed. Nets had the dispickable duo of Kid and KMart with the plain vanilla (Pun intended) KVH. A coach nobody really respected either.

No doubt having Melo has added to the starphuchabilty of the knicks.

Deron does not have the charisma that Melo has.

Maybe your right but the Nets are spending the money and the brand is being rebooted. THe Brooklyn hype is also raising the awareness.

My point is the nets have enough to succeed and they really cut it close with Deron resigning.

My gut says that idiot Dwight will get his way into Nets. That dumb ass could have had his free agency this summer and the Nets could have used trade assets to build around him instead of trading. I doubt they could have afforded to Keep Bropez but BroPez as a power forward next to Howard would have been intense.

What is left is the Nets are an interesting team with a marketing machine to leverage the Brookyn connection branding the team as "urban chic" to the rest of the world.

Can't argue that. This could be their "Batman Begins", their reboot of the Nets brand. Dwight is the one commodity that could possibly tilt the arrow closer to the Atlantic yards. With the big Russian willing to spend, it'll definitely make things interesting.

I sincerely say this from the bottom of my heart to the top of my lungs.... FUCK THE NETS!!!!

The only market share they're going to take is from short term Knicks bandwagoners and maybe a few youngsters that are just getting into the NBA.

This city has always been and always will be Knicks. Blue and orange 4LIFE!

Now that's what I'm talking about! It's a pleasure to read a post like this. Sounds like a true optimistic Knicks fan and we need more real Knicks fans these days, not b.tches going through their premenstrual syndromes.

The Brooklyn Nets are now the Core 4? WHAT?
