Yeah, that was a stroke of genius on Dwight's part. Not the brightest bulb in the marquee, it seems.
I guess Dwight's logic is " sure we can make a quick turn left to get there, but that's too easy. Make enough right turns, and we'll still get there."... 
The Nyets' logic is not much different, which is why they were so enamored by eachother, I guess. 
That may be what makes their failed union so funny.
