LeBron: We would beat Dream Team
ESPN.com news services

LeBron James has joined Kobe Bryant in saying that he believes this year's Team USA Olympic basketball team could beat the 1992 Dream Team.
Days before the current U.S. squad takes the court in London, James made his boast in a recent television interview.
"As a competitor you never want to say that you will lose no matter who you are going against," James told ABC News "Nightline" anchor Cynthia McFadden.
James also showed his respect to the iconic 1992 team, which was led by Michael Jordan and included 11 future Hall of Famers. That team won its six Olympic games by an average of more than 43 points en route to capturing the gold medal.
"The '92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us ... We understand what they did for our game, but we also are big-time competitors as well, so if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win too," James said.
James' comments echoed those of Bryant, who two weeks ago made virtually the same proclamation.
"It would be a tough one but I think we would pull it out," Bryant said at a news conference. "People who think we can't beat that team for one game, they are crazy. To sit there and say we can't, it's ludicrous. We can beat them one time."
Bryant's comments received immediate and sharp rebuttal from some members of the Dream Team. Jordan told The Associated Press he laughed when he heard of Bryant's comments.
"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said.
President Barack Obama also weighed in on the topic.
"This is a generational thing," Obama said during a halftime interview with ESPN2 as it broadcast an exhibition game between the U.S. and Brazil earlier this month. "I was around in '92, I was a Bulls fan, so I've got to go with the original Dream Team."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

We get that these aholes are competitors, but to say you can beat the greatest team ever assembled, is like saying Pepsi is better than Coke, Myspace better than Facebook, Floyd Mayweather greater than Mohammed Ali, Handskies are better than Blowskies, Green Lantern better than The Dark Knight Rises. Just shutup and play and let the Historians decide.

I don't get what the big deal is. What do you expect them to say? This kind of reminds me of the way the Patriots and their fans treated the Giants and their fans before Superbowl XLII.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

A little thing called "humility" perhaps? If they were to have a 7 game series, 2012 Team vs 1992 Dream Team, the 2012 Team would maybe get lucky and win 1 game. It really isn't a debate who would win. Unlike the Patriots, the 1992 Dream Team was the best ever at their positions possibly, had the greatest player of all time, the 2 greatest playmakers of all time, the greatest frontcourt assembled, and played defense like their lives depended on it. So to say, you would beat this juggernaut of a team, is either just arrogance or blind stupidity. Just a simple quote "The Dream Team is greatest team of all time, but it's hard to compare different eras, so I'll leave that to the writers and fans" would suffice. Instead Kobe and Lebron have to go with absolutes:

if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win

Just douche on top of douchery times ten.

Like Barkley said originally, only about 3 players on this team make the original dream team:

Kobe Bryant
Lebron James
Kevin Durant

I love our Knicks to death, but Melo and Chandler wouldn't make it. Neither Westbrook, Love, A. Davis, Harden, Iguodala etc. CP3 and Deron possibly, but if you were to pick between them and Magic/Stockton no way jose. Just total annihilation until the 4 quarter when Christian Laettner's in the game.

Team is about to be competing in the Olympics...in no world is it going to help team morale to admit to hypothetical losses. I don't have a problem with their actual answers, only the fact that they chose to even give an answer. Side-step that landmine!

Ridiculous like Lin's contract?

Seriously, who would you pick between the 1992 Dream Team(11 Hall of Famers) or 2012 USA BBall Team(Possibly 5 Hall of Famers)? Use the 1 second answer test then let me know the results.

This kind of reminds me of the way the Patriots and their fans treated the Giants and their fans before Superbowl XLII.

exactly, you guys are taking this way to personal..all these players are great and the greatest in the world..what should bron say, those guys would kick out buts, these players old school new school all have pride and are those most competitive in the world..

Get a grip!!

Guess humility, a sense of perspective, and reality don't have a place in modern day sports.

Stop being ridiculous. There's not a great player that's ever existed that doesn't believe they can win every game; it's part of what makes them a great player. In conclusion:

Ridiculous like Lin's contract?

Seriously, who would you pick between the 1992 Dream Team(11 Hall of Famers) or 2012 USA BBall Team(Possibly 5 Hall of Famers)? Use the 1 second answer test then let me know the results.

I'm not agreeing with 2012, I absolutely believe 1992 is better. I'm just saying that when you ask a great player if they would win or lose a game they're going to say they would win it; it doesn't matter who they're playing.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Don't forget rules in 1992 were very different from rules now. Back then we get to enjoy/suffer Karl Malone's lethal elbow throws and the Piston bad boys and mad hand checks. Now the players can't even pinky touch another players jersey, deemed too rough.

Flopping hadn't evolved yet into the high art form it is today, either.

Unlike the Douchery of Kobe and Lebron, Melo's comment about the 1992 Dream is textbook deflection without sounding like a lame-o assbag:

"When we're out there on the basketball court, we're not thinking about what the 1992 Dream Team did or anything like that," said Team USA forward Carmelo Anthony, who led the way against Nigeria with a U.S. Olympic record of 37 points -- including 10-for-12 shooting on 3s -- in just 14 minutes of court time.

"We respect those guys and we understand what those guys did. We understand the standards that those guys set. But we're playing for ourselves right now, for our country, for this moment. We're not out there on the basketball court making plays and making shots and playing defense and saying, 'This is (like) the '92 Dream Team.' Those guys did what they did in 1992 and now we have the chance to do something special."

Usually comments and quotes aren't Melo's strong suits as people remember "the ridiculous" comments. Here he's right on the money. Kobe and Lebron start taking notes and stop trying to rape all the girls in the Olympic Village!

The possible difference between high school diplomates and at least one year of college education displayed on the world stage.

Kobe just can't shut up.

At least it's clear as day, that the debate is finally over. Back to back struggles against Lithuania and Argentina? The 92 Dream Team would be thinking about where to eat instead sweating bullets at the half.
For once I wholeheartedly agree with Charles Barkley
