I think they will unless they can cut salaries/trade him or lower salary with a trade involving their big 4.
Lakers still needs a bench, to fill while their payroll with Nash, is 90m+ this season, and 70m+ *without Bynum's salary cause he is a FA*
That is a lot of $ and Metta World Piece has become a tweener PF/SF, instead of the versatile defender he use to be.
He still has game left in him but he is nearly the player he once was, and is not worth paying 7-8m for 2 more years, when are much over the tax bracket.
He found his 3point shot late last season, unable to find his shot from the lock out for almost the entire season.
I know that this is something Lakers must consider doing, not sure if they will actually amnesty him though.
Jordan Hill and Sessions, can play a much bigger role on their bench, and would both cost less than MWP.
They will have to decide, if they want to keep those players, with some youth, but at a higher price, or veteran min/undrated players to fill their roster.
He is very strong BUT SLOW like a turtle now, making him closer to a undersized PF, with the ability to spread the floor.
With 2 year's left on his deal, if he gets amnestied, a team under the cap might pick his contract up for 1-2m.
Because of his "history", there is a chance they would probably not want to deal with a nut case, as he could clear waivers.
If he does get amnestied, clears waivers, I think I would rather have MWP back in NY, than Rashard Lewis.
He is still a post option, can hit the wide open 3point shots, and would be fan favorite with Camby/Tyson, and Iman defensively.
Having a body to rough up Lebron would be my #1 reason for getting acquiring his talents if all this happens....
