If he gets his shot back to where it was he can stretch the floor and at least be a rotational player who has an occassional good drive. As a fan there's not really any benefit to letting him walk. We can't really get any other free agents. It's an ugly contract but yeah it's an asset and were gonna be over the cap anyway until 2015 barring something crazy.

I agree but with Melo, here, he just won't get many minutes at SF, his true position.
If he plays SG, then we need a SF like AI, that can facilitate, and take the pressure away from him.
With that said, we don't, and he has a team in Toronto that suits his skills and style of play.
There SG/SF can handle the ball and penetrate, with a very solid PG in Lowry, and multiple shooters that can open up the floor for Fields.
Not many teams can put up 5 shooters on the floor together, this would open up Fields game a lot.
Fields has improved his ball handling and penetration, just not good enough to play SG because he lacks speed/quickness.
I think he will get his 3point shot down, eventually, he has good worth ethic, and a great team mate.

I think he will be good in Toronto, because he fits there, he wouldn't be nearly the same effective player here.
It just isn't worth matching for us, the tax apron is different from previous years, the $ on tax payers go up every year and is more than 1-1 ratio.
We already are much over the apron and will continue to use it with our 1st round pick next year, another 3m MLE, and a fresh 3m to toss around to buy contracts/picks.
The Euoprean players we have draft rights for, can come over, or we can wait another year or 2.

Good point about matching fields offer.... It isn't our money..... Plus what player can we get for 2 mil that would be better than fields? He can play the two until shump is ready and play the 3 for defense when needed

Fields is way better than whoever we'd get for the league min. You're not gonna get a 46% SG above average in rebounds, assists, and steals for the min. We have to match Fields' offer.

for that price, Terrence Williams, but with no picks to offer, why would someone want to trade a player that could be useful?
Maybe OKC, to save salary, because of their upcoming salaries, and they are always stockpiled with players that can't even get off their bench.

But we don't need a lights out SG especially at that contract. Remember we have Shumpert and J.R.

i was just thinking about fields too...maybe we reconsider...the list of vet min players left sux
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

are you guys looking at SG's or at SF's?

I personally do not think Fields is a SG and should not play many minutes there.
However, he spend majority of last season playing that position.

When Melo was out, Fields had some good games, and did well during Linsanity....

With that said, Fields can be a good player, he just no longer fits well with the team after the trade for Melo.
Just say Andre Igoudola was the "SF" and he was on the Knicks instead of Melo, I think Fields would be 3x better.

Remember when Jordan Hill, Channing Frye, and Diaw were called BUSTS and D league material?
Well, having the right team, identity, understanding their role, players on team, system, philosophy, and coach are ALL very important to be in the right FIT.

I don't think we need a high priced high ceiling guy, though it would be nice. I think I would prefer a guy like Lee, Brewer, Pietrus, and I still stand by Dantay (sp?) Jones for the minimum. We need a place holder, not a star, imo.

dahntay jones would be a good signing...but courtney lee would be GREAT!

ideally...a perfect fit for a SG would be

1. plays great Defense with good height (6-5ish)
2. does NOT demand the ball on offense
3. can keep defenses honest by hitting the open 3
4. can give us a good 20-25mins

(geez sounds a lot like rookie yr fields)

LEE, PIETRUS fit this mold

So what I am getting out of this is that Gadz contract not enough to do the sign and trade for Kidd, but we can sign and trade for an additional 2 million dollar player. That could be a nice piece. Would love to get a Raja Bell type.

I disagree. His 3 ball has been missing since he stepped into the league. There are better options. IMO. HE is a vet min guy though.

i'd be okay with deshawn.

but i'd much prefer to see if sonny weems, ronnie brewer or cj watson would take the vet minimum first.

i believe none of those guys are eligible for a S&T, except maybe weems.

Earl Watson?

not many players are in the 2m range that are not in rookie deals.
Unless a team is doing a player a favor, looking to shed a contract, or save $.

If we had Jorts or Jordan, we could have done some work.

Dahntay Jones had a player option for 2.8m that he already picked up.
Unless we have early bird rights for JJ and use him in a S%T with Gadzuric....

there was a guy who posted an article that we could actually use Bibby in a S&T along with Gadz for Dahntay. it sounded complicated, but workable and Indy would make $$$
