WE can't succeed with him playing those minutes and that amount of touch's.

Its a team game so I think with great talent spread out he does not have to put up big stats for the team to succeed.

Bonn: how would he even put up the performance of a few years ago with this current team? Get the league to add another ball? Stat's in a different situation now. Hopefully he adapts.

Amare took 14 shots a game last year and averaged about 15 shots a game on the Suns. His touches barely went down. His effectiveness when touched the ball is what went downhill.

Bonn I understand your assesment looking at a stat sheet, but anyone who's paid attention to the actually game (which i know you have) saw a big difference in where and when Amare was getting his shots.

In addition, if you look at his FGA's pre-Melo, as opposed to just a flat comparison of totals year on year, he was leading the team in FGA. Not so anymore. So it's not just effectiveness, it's a different environment.

The point still stands, the Stat of 2010 is not going to happen with this current team. It can't. Predicating Knick success on a Stat return to that mode of play is ignoring reality.

should we mention that stat, for the better part of the last 3 seasons has played Center, the adjustment back to PF with such a dominate splaying beside him.

Amare had more adjustments to handle (last season) then any player in the league

Positions are overrated. Stat's been a PF/C combo player every year.

He played C for 12% and PF for 59% of the team's total minutes in his final season in Phoenix. (Scroll down to "production by position").

17% at C and 31% at PF the prior season

He gets blocked on many dunks now and doesn't have the athleticism anymore that his game depends on. I don't think that's related to whether he plays PF or C.

I agree- don't worry about Nostradumbass, it's all for fun

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

cmon on now, he had some monsterous dunks last season, maybe not as much as prior years. But clearly with TYSONs man/defender hanging in the paint, you now have some one from the weak and strong side defending the rim..

I think we owe Amare atleast a full season before we start saying he's a shell of his former himself

Owe him a full season? He's had two full seasons and been a disaster for 1.5 of them.

I am not sure about disaster. I mean he did have a whole host of issues last year. His performance has declined but it's always looked like he is not a 100% there. I want to see if he comes back healthy and brings his jumper back. I also want to see if Melo stays in shape post Olympics and agrees to play team ball.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

I saw that part of the show. All Smith was saying was that he had to see Stat playing like he did when he first got here to make him a believer. He also said that the Knicks would do well if Amar'e was healthy. Pretty much the same stuff most of us have been saying.
