As with any other waived player, teams must continue to pay the guaranteed base salary of their amnestied players.

Also as with any other waived player, another team may place a waiver claim in order to acquire the player before he clears waivers (see question number 63). But amnesty is different from the normal waiver process in that it allows teams to make either a full or partial waiver claim. When a team makes a full waiver claim it acquires the player, assumes his full contract, and pays all remaining salary obligations (and the waiving team has no further salary obligation to the player). Full waiver claims have precedence over partial waiver claims -- if one team makes a full waiver claim and another makes a partial waiver claim, the team making the full waiver claim is awarded the player. If multiple teams make full waiver claims, the player is awarded to the team with the worst record.

A partial waiver claim is a bid for a single dollar amount. If no team makes a full waiver claim, the player is awarded to the team submitting the highest bid in a partial waiver claim. If multiple teams bid the same amount, the player is awarded to the team with the worst record. When a team is awarded a player via a partial waiver claim, it pays the following portion of the player's salary:

- The amount of their bid, spread pro rata across all remaining guaranteed years of the player's contract
- All non-base compensation, such as bonuses
- 100% of the player's salary in non-guaranteed seasons

I hear you on that, but doubt anybody would take on his full salary, Brand being 33 and injury prone.

So with this cleared up....I don't believe you will see brand clearing waivers. Doubtful the Knicks have a chance.

The winning bidder only pays the bid so there's no way he'll clear.

THe "bidding" process is interesting and Im sure he'll help a team.

This rule is really a good one as it prevents him from outright being a FA and teams with some space can sign him.

He is a movie producer so the usual "LA" teams will pop up as well as "come home to play" in NY can be the usually Media Fodder.

Bobcats I think have some room and need for bigs so he could get "bidded" or "claimed" there. Baron cleared because of his back issues. Brand I thought was healthy last year and He should command some "bids". Might not be where he wants to be but he gonna get paid for his trouble.

It appears Dallas has serious interest striking out on pretty much everyone.

Sources tell ESPN.com that the Dallas Mavericks, under the salary cap after being foiled in their pursuit of marquee free agent Deron Williams, have interest in claiming Brand through the waiver process.

Teams currently under the cap include the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets.

Miami wouldn't be able to claim him off waivers because of their record....the Knicks would have a better chance being the 8th seed....I can't see anyone below the knicks trying to claim Brand....the Knicks have a great shot

Believe Amnesty clause waiver wire works different than regular waiver pickups...Amnesty wire goes to the highest bidder first.

Definitely worth a shot if he clears waivers... but he won't clear waivers.

Has nothing to do with records, just cap space to accommodate the bid.

Is Philly planning something? Brand only had one year left on his contract. It doesn't make sense to amnesty him when he's expiring anyway.

if they do they are retarded...brand was 11 and 7 last year...anything more than he vets minimum is a stretch

Knicks have a shot but it's definately pretty long

Why is that?

Brand would only be there for one season anyway.

He's still a better big man than anyone else on Dallas' roster and he plays pretty good defense.

good veteran player and the right kind of player... this would be like Buck Williams part II. Great fit. Brand could be first big off the bench at PF/C and give you 25 great minutes a night, and have nights where he just beasts and gives you some nice production.

i mean andrew just posted the rules....

it has everything to do with records....the only thing is if someone wants to crack the bank higher than the veterans minimum then they would get Brand....I can't see anyone with a better record than the knicks offering more than the vets minimum. I mean 3 million should be the limit...but we've seen guys get 7 mill a year and totally don't deserve it....ahhhh the nba rules suck
