The Knicks still have plenty of options and plenty of backcourt spots to fill. One of them won't be filled by Steve Nash, though. That might not feel great on opening night later this year ... but when Iman Shumpert's healthy and ferocious in 2014, and Nash is Jason Kidd with a better shot, we bet you'll feel a lot better about missing out yesterday. Patience, grasshoppers. - Will Leitch

Bonn1997 - Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler compose our big two. Amar'e Stoudemire is the third component of a very strong frontcourt.

That combination has been together for one, strike-shortened, abbreviated, no training camp season. Steve Novak was a discovery and Jeremy Lin was magical. Iman Shumpert, who was booed on draft night, may be damaged but he is a quality ballplayer.

That makes six solid men to build with.

The next three choices are important. That makes nine. The other three slots are filler.

Yep. Also, let's not forget that Amare played the entire season with a bulging disc in his back; Melo and MDA had a falling out and nearly destroyed the team; and we played most of the season with no point guard. And we still had our best season in over a decade.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

I think Amar'e comes back in better shape and a better frame of mind - people tend to forget his brother dying mid-season.

I think next year will be quite good.

Are we gonna win it all? No. We're not gonna win it all. At least, probably not. But hey, maybe Linsanity wasn't a fluke. Maybe Amar'e comes back a little more focused and develops his pick and roll timing with Felton again. Maybe Melo commits to being a leader. Maybe the defense is still 5th best in the league. Maybe Steve Novak shoots 48% from 3pt range. Maybe the Knicks pick up Shawne Williams on the cheap and he also shoots 48% from 3pt range and plays solid defense again. Maybe Tyson wins a second straight Defensive Player of the Year Award.

There are good things to look forward to. I'd be really excited if Shumpert were ready to Day one of training camp, but it'll probably be mid-season.

Otherwise, there is plenty to look for next season that can be good.

Our big 3 have about 30 years of wear and tear. They still played in about 85% of the games last year. It isn't likely that they will be more healthy than that this year.

they're 28-29. and melo and tyson seem completely healthy and ready to go. wonder about amar'e, but hope he can get back to a lower weight and more mobility. we'll see about him.

and as for health, i was refering to our young backcourt of lin and shumpert.

Wow everyone panicking. Don't people realize that our team last year was on the cusp of being very good? Everyone except Fields as of now is probably coming back. We still have money to burn. The #1 target didn't happen. This doesn't mean we're going to be an 8th seed team. EVERYTHIG hinges on Amare coming back strong. If he doesn't we have problems. If he does we're still the second best team in the east (on paper).

Besides Felton we are still in the market for another SG besides JR. Camby is also still an option for depth. We still have a chance of coming out of free agency with a much better roster than last years.

Everyone chill. I wanted Nash to but him not signing doesn't break us.

But don't forget, if you add the total age of the team together with JKidd, it's now 1,279! And that's not even counting the coaching staff! We're done for, I tell ya!

I predict right now that we not only don't make the playoffs, but we will only win between 10 and 11 games, based on this present sample size.

I know that may sound like doom and gloom to some, but lets be realistic here. We've only won 2 playoff games in the past two years! We haven't one more than two championships in the past 70 years! Beat the rush, abandon ship now!

Negativity. Gotta love it.

Actually, we've won 1 playoff game in the past two years. Which is more than we've had in the last decade, so there's that.

My biggest concern was getting the PG situation sorted out before the season started and that looks like its been taken care of. Won't be the same compressed schedule as last year so hopefully we won't get bitten by the same injury bug as last season. I was concerned but things are starting to look up.

Same. If Shump comes back healthy around January, I think this team is in good shape.

Somehow the Kidd thing answers a lot of team chemistry and make-up problems in my mind.

+1

The operative word is chemistry. I agree that Kidd should do wonders in that department.

Its July. Panic amumg fans?

Really, what kind of excitement was expected?

Some of y'all need to chill.

This team was very very good down the stretch last year and our playoff failure was due to two things:

We were worn out and lacked depth to compensate.

And The best basketball player on the planet grew the phuch up.

Miami was awesome.

Can one really peg the season on the series with Miami?

If we played and beat chicago as did the 8th seed Philly did would that really have mattered?

Depends on how we faired against Boston.

We are a 50+ win team if we can keep Smith and stay reasonably healthy.

We are a good team. How good? Gotta tune in and find out.

yep.

and adding Kidd is important. he's like the old guy in the pick up game who can't run as fast or jump with the young guys any more, but always seems to make the smart pass, the big shot. he's a pain and he always wins. that's huge to put a guy like kidd with a guy like melo who is a young horse you can ride for points. ask dirk what playing with kidd did for him.
