This new CBA is a disaster- by trying to deter teams from spending by introducing a harsher luxury tax, it's had the opposite effect- rival teams now put in salary spikes to deter the existing team from matching due to the harsher luxury tax. It's inflating salaries for mediocre restricted FA's.

I refuse to believe its really $20mil for Fields though!

Options now become:

1. Match Fields (terrible option)
2. Let him go and replace with the full MLE (probably the best option)
3. Continue to pursue Nash in S&T involving Shumpert (this is an on-the-fence option)

I'd have to go with option 2. I would love for Nash to run point but not if it means giving up Shump.

Doesn't seem like he wants to be a champion so freaking bad.

Tough to let Shumpert go, but Nash can probaly play at a high level for 3 more years. Shumpert is an injury risk at this point with two knee injuries as a rookie. Lin as good as he was can't command the respect Nash can and he will lead the NBA in assists and harmonize everything.

Fields average 14pts a game next year with Nash running the break, he was a good knick and highly undervalued, it's just a shame that we didn't include him in the Melo deal if we were just going to lose him!! Could have help onto Moz

The rapts are alway trying to throw $ at players to spite other teams..look at all the $ they threw at the bum turk only to trade him a yr later. They only did it so portland wouldn't have a chance, who basically had thought they had him locked in.

Now there doing it to get either nash or lin. They have no plan on how to build a team, just give any talent that comes there way a boat load of money to play for a loser..

who in there right mind would give a player 12 mill a yr just to add about 7 more wins..like nash is there missing piece..

the rapts are just bad for the league

I thought Fields max would get 3 years 15 and even that seemed like way to much. He doesnt fit this team anymore. If Shumpert wasnt hurt I think he might have trouble getting 20 minutes a night from Woodson

Sign Fields reduces Nash's chance of signing there. Less money to throw at him.

yeah, i'm fine to let Fields walk.

i'm worried this overpaying means toronto thinks

A) it'll ****block nash to NY (which it will) and

B) if deron goes to Brooklyn, suddenly Dallas overpays Nash and then Toronto offers Nash money to Lin, now having Lin's best friend, largest asian population in league and landry's couch. (more worried about option B)

How does shooting guard that can't shoot mid range, can't shoot 3s, and can't hit free throws fetch $20 million in today's NBA???

I'm really confused by this move by Toronto, being if they strictly did this as a **** block move to get Nash, what if the Knicks don't match and they're stuck with the garbage that is Landry Fields? Just mind boggling to me to throw money away at below average talent in this economy...

they can always amnesty Calderon. that frees $8M

knicks could get calderon for a vet minimum then, which wouldn't be horrible.

If shumpert wasnt hurt he'd have trouble getting 15mins in 3months!

After meeting with Toronto and New York on Sunday, Nash was scheduled to meet with Brooklyn on Monday, just as the Nets made a trade for his former Suns teammate, All-Star guard Joe Johnson. Brooklyn also was expected to approach an eight-figure annual salary, while New York was trying to get close to there with a sign-and-trade deal sending Landry Fields, Toney Douglas and cash to the Suns but has not contacted the Suns about it.

Something is going on here, but then again we never saw the Tyson trade coming, so im sure ernie is making moves else where, and will probably get a player that was on no ones radar.

Or option 3: Nash comes to ny has career ending surgery is bought out 3yrs later and Toney Douglas is our pg next year

Remember when I was saying that the owners were full of crap during the CBA battle. this is what I meant. Stern and the owners always lay blame on the players and in the end it's the owners themselves that are the source of the leagues problems. They always do stuff like this when they change the rules, the owners find a way to overpay just to take players from each other. It was never about the players. All the leagues financial issues were about the owners.
