Then we can replay the "Baron Davis as Saviour" script again.

Let me ask about how this works. If a team gives Lin an offer sheet and he signs, can we tell that team that we're going to match the offer and you're best option if you really want him is to do a sign and trade with us?

Nobody. It's just beat reporters with nothing to go on atm. We will resign Lin and make a run for the next three years.

No, you can't do a sign and trade with a team once an offer sheet is signed.

maybe not a 4 year deal like that, but hey look what Omar Osik got.

25 m for 3 year deal from Houston.
I do not think Lin has earned a 4 year 30-40m deal, on basketball level.
But a 3 year deal like Omar Osik's deal would give full bird rights to a team, while collecting the world largest fan base, especially in Toronto.

Honestly I said this before FA, I do not think Lin likes the idea of Nash coming over and Nash does not want to sign a lower deal to be be a trading chip.
These guys are bumping heads with each other, without Melo, as they should be, cause one they know they won't work defensively.
I am surprised Ilyasova has not got any rumors so far, while being a UFA compared to Nichlas Batummm 4y 50m deal, with Twolves.

But they can still talk before they offer Lin so it is possible just not probable.

I would think it is possible that NY will not match if this team would not be run by Jimmy Dolan.
He doesn't give a rat as..s about being over the cap and spending 10 or 50 millions more.
Especially if he can potentially get 100th of millions out of Lin Chinies exposure.

Because Jim Dolan is a weak-arse owner. He is the dumbest, most clueless dipwad in the NBA world. Even David Stern did not deny his consciences with that thought. If you see a rich man's horny hot wife all alone, and you know that the rich man will cringe at the thought of even being a man and confront other people or worse, will listen to his buddy whatever they say as long as he can just cough up the money to appease his buddy... wouldn't you try to tap that arse of his wife's? I know most guys/teams would.
