PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia 76ers try to move closer to a playoff spot Friday when they host the New York Knicks in a key Eastern Conference game.

The 76ers, who have won three in a row, are tied for 10th in the East with Toronto, just two games behind New York, which is tied with Cleveland for sixth place.

Philadelphia has dropped four straight against New York, including the first two meetings this season - both at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks posted a 99-88 win on November 22 and an 88-77 victory on March 3. The teams play again in Philadelphia on April 3.

With top scorers Allen Iverson and Glenn Robinson sidelined, Kenny Thomas has picked up the slack for the Sixers, who are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in six years.

Thomas recorded 22 points and 13 rebounds in Tuesday's 89-81 victory at Chicago, his ninth straight double-double. During that span, he is averaging 18 points and nearly 13 rebounds per game.

The Knicks are coming off a disappointing home loss, 87-84, to Boston on Wednesday that snapped a three-game winning streak. Allan Houston scored 23 points and Tim Thomas contributed 17 for New York, but Stephon Marbury was held to 14 on 6-of-18 shooting and missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Friday's contest concludes a stretch in which the Knicks play five straight games against Eastern

im telling you man...sweetney DOMINATED the Big East...theres gotta be a reason for that. I really look forward to seeing him develop

not bad at all. long, got some nice blocks. He should be nice off the bench at C. At little rusty on the offensive end, better at D.

great. this should have been a blowout. Lenny should hve left sweetney on the floor. Kurt Thomas absolutly sucks.
