Showing interest right now, could be the difference of these players that want contracts, and the opportunity to play with a competitor vs a team like Cleveland.
In all likelihood, these guys don't want to play for a competitor; they want to play for a team that they can get minutes on so they can continue their career after that contract is up. Also, which of these guys are going to choose a spot on the Summer League, and no contract past that, over a partially guaranteed 3-year deal.
oh come on, how can you really believe that?
For the most part, yes. These guys are trying to get playing time and a contract; most good teams don't have many openings and aren't going to spend much time developing an UDFA. A bad team on the other hand, will have holes to fill and more opportunities for marginal players to get burn. Realize, most of these guys don't have very many skills outside of basketball so if they don't catch on with an NBA team they're either headed to the D-League, where they get paid very little, or they have to try to sign overseas.
We can just agree to disagree but I can tell you that, as a player and former teammate of some big time DI players and pro players, no guy with an ounce of competitiveness in his bones is praying to get on a bad team. If anything, these guys are just so happy that they have an opportunity because not too long ago the door was almost closed shut. If they are mentally tough enough they are joining the team with a chip on their shoulder and are determined to just work hard and take advantage of the opportunity given. I doubt Landry and Jorts were crossing their fingers hoping that they got picked up by the Cavs. Shoot, look at the Bobcats roster, if any of them were dying to be on that team I'm sure they wondering what the hell they were thinking because they are
all easily expendable.
