MS wrote:Again great news. A guy they forced the franchises hand and takes up 1/3 of our cap, got the coach fired, gave a half assed effort for most of the season and played out of shape all last year is taking his offseason serious.

The bar is low

Owner wanted melo. Dantoni was given 4 years and talent the past two but couldn't put it together. He chose to resign and received his salary. Melo improving his body and focus is a good thing.

MDA did begin to put it together before the Melo trade so why are u stretching the truth? That team had lower expectations than this years team. It wasn't good with no PG but once they found Lin all they needed was for Melo to buy in 100% which he admitted he didn't do!!! Stop giving Melo a pass for that. No coach can make a player do anything they dont want to and Melo didn't want to play hard until MDA resigned. Now he wants to get in shape?

Better late than never I guess

He's doing it to stick it to MDA.

i admit i have always been critical of melo and i do stand by my feelings on some of his actions. However I like what i am hearing so far this offseason. melo seems determined and obsessed with getting this team on a legit run in the post season which i am really excitied about. This is great news along with the birds rights victory and hopefully both will stand.

I dunno. I feel like we here this every year with the players aying they're working hard and in great shape..lost 30 lbs(Curry) and then they come back to training camp looking terrible. Is there any independent confirmation besides Melo saying he's lost 12 lbs? To his credit I think Stat always comes to camp in good condition.

except last year but you let him slide because he was rehabbing his back all summer and a shortened training camp with the lockout

He also got banged up during the season, preventing him from lifting and doing much more than riding a stationary bike.

Injuries quickly get you off optimal shape during the season.

Im more worried about what Amare has left then Melo. Wonder if the Knicks considered calling the Wizards fot the 3rd pick. If they were willing to do it for Gasol maybe they would for Amare

LOL! If you add up all the weight Eddy said he lost over the years, I think he'd be under 100 pounds!

Melo could lose 50 pounds and he still wont be as athletic as Wade or Lebron.

I see Melo going the way of Barkley once he retires and then joining chuck in weight watchers. Just by looking at that frame

Never thought he needed to lose much weight... just exchange a few pounds of fat for muscle.

He wears padding that makes him look heavier.

And no matter what his weight, he had tons of putbacks while defenders seemed slow by comparison.

It would be nice to see him with a quicker first step though. Too many times you can guess he's going to take one dribble and pull up for the jumper.

Oh good lord... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XkmGrX7O0lQ

Injuries quickly get you off optimal shape during the season.

And the injuries he endured probably came from being in less than optimal shape to begin with.
