Both. It's never too late to change!
Shiet, they're like $25 a piece! Oh well, deep down I'll still be cursing Dolan!

Ok so this thread here got me thinking. First of all, those jerseys are only 25$ each? Maybe I should consider buying me a used Jersey. From a fellow knick fan who is also boycotting so that the money doesn't go to Dolan.
Second, thing I was thinking is this: Who is more supportive of their team , a fan that buys merchandise when his team is owned by someone who prevents the team from being run correctly, directly indirectly and every other possible way(except being willing to spend $) or a fan that supports his team by watching just as many games as the first guy, but does not spend a penny on things that put $ in owners pocket ?
If it is the only thing that can remove Dolan, its worth it. Trying to "rabbit ear" games through the internet was a major pain in the *** tho, mine kept lagging, skipping plays, crappy resolution, and those ads are a pain.
I'm sure the guy who buys jerseys is also watching the games. As far as I know, watching the games is just a one-time purchase (when you get NBA League Pass) and a small percentage goes to each owner. It's not like each Knicks game you watch leads to more money for Dolan. Perhaps if you're contacted by Neilson and tell them you were watching the game, it would impact the ratings and Dolan would get a little more money. But you likely never will be contacted by them and don't have to tell them what you watched anyway.
You may claim to know BBall Sabermetrics. But based on this reply, you don't seem to understand cable subscription fees and TV advertising revenue streams. Digital Cable companies keep their own metrics on viewers, and unlike Neilsen, they have the actual numbers. The Knicks are owned by MSG Corporation. MSG derives revenue directly from Cable Carriage fees to carry their multiple channel package. If the Knicks are good enough to make the playoffs (which they are with Melo/Stat/Chandler/Lin).....they will continue to have a fairly high viewership percentage irregardless of if they are a championship team or not. They will continue to be on a basic cable package and generate a fairly good revenue stream from their carriage fees. MSG uses ratings information (both Neilsen and unpublished Digital Cable viewership information) to generate direct advertising revenue from their Network channels. The more people who watch, the higher the ratings, the higher the advertising fees. If they are a playoff team...this increases further.
Further, with the Arena renovations....MSG is derriving an increased revenue from their Luxury Suites. These revenues are generally not effected by on the court performance. Suites go to Corporations who use them to wine/dine potential customers, or for employee perks.
Fan protests against teams do not work. This is especially true for playoff caliber teams. As rational as you may be as a fan.....there are probably 10 irrational fans or more who root on pure emotion. After not making the playoffs for the last 6 straight years prior, after living through the Isiah turmoil....a large percentage of Knick fans view making the playoffs the past two years as an accomplishment. If the trend continues, and the Knicks are a one and done playoff team for the next two years....than many more fans will become impatient. However, after 3 years....the big three contracts expire and the roster will turn over and most fans will have renewed hope.
The more rational hope is that Dolan will look to the Rangers as inspiration on how to run the Knicks. A young team with enough talent to finish at the top....and just needing finishing touches to win a Cup. It took a while for Sather to finally get it right, but he avoided Starphuking trades (as you call it) this year and went deeper into the playoffs. The other hope is that Dolan as Chairman and probably significant Stockholder in MSG will make such a boatload of money....that he will become so rich and bored with his toys (Knicks/Rangers)....and retire from his Chair.
You are rooting for the opposite to happen. That fans revolt, don't watch, don't go to games, don't buy merchandise....in such numbers that is monetarily hurts the Knicks/Dolan. If this unlikely event does happen.....it is unlikely MSG will sell the Knicks as a first action. They have the Rangers and other properties to fall back on in terms of revenue. Rather, they will cost cut, fire team and other workers, cut back on player, coach and administrative salaries. The team will suffer and stink from it. The example you have for this is the Mets who in a big market are suffering from revenue deprivation....and therefore forced to behave like a small market team.
