I'm a proud owner of a Fields jersey (#6 though :( ) but if the Knicks could get a 1st, you'd have to do it. The knicks cap is managable but potentially dicey. not to mention, this year's draft is deep on SGs. if the Knicks could get one that could actually hit a deep shot consistently, it would just make too much sense

Depends on the pick. If it's a low first round I'd pass. I think we may be able to find comparable players, or at least player who fit our system, with the second round pick we already own. We're already capped out and, from a depth standpoint, we may not have a choice but to bring Landry back at a reasonable price.

You only trade up to get a player you want.

Who do we want? At what price?

Who has the value and who is expendable.

Our biggest problem would be our inability acquire talent to add to our core. Needing the FULL MLE to use, LLE, and being over the tax bracket takes away this ability. With our cap situation, we must be under the tax bracket even if we win the bird rights case with Lin/Novak, so we can still have the MLE and LLE to spend. Somehow if we can manage to use our MLE
for this summer and the next year after, and with our 2013 1st round pick, we would be able to assemble a playoff caliber team.

1) Draft Rights to both Giorgos Printezis and Ahmad Nivins (rights to players that we acquired from The Dallas Mavericks as part of the Tyson Chandler trade)

2) Iman Shumpert he has a lot of upside and high ceiling. I think he is almost untouchable had he not blown out both knees and had the injury not look as serious as it was.
He still is young and has the chance to recover, with a chance to become one of the leagues elite lock down defenders in the future.

3) JR Smith, no one can deny that is still one of the streakiest shooters in the league. However, he is very talented, athletic, and has good all around skills to go with his
abilities. He is an ideal 6th man for many teams and is a solid defender to go with his ability to create his own shot. He is quite versatile, with the ability to defend
PGs, SGs, and SFs. He is older now and much more mature, not a head case like he once was. He has a good handle while he should be used as a 2nd or 3rd ball handler, not the #1
ball handler/facilitator that he was forced to play because of our injuries in the playoffs. He is well worth more than his 2.5m contract and is a good stoppage 6th man for OKC
or many teams that are championship/playoff contenders, like for Memphis(allowing OJ Mayo to be traded for picks), Clippers, Lakers, and Miami Heat. Manu Ginobili would be in the
market after next season, if OKC decides that Harden would cost too much as a max player playing the 6th man role. A player of JR Smith's caliber and contract would allow
OKC to get many great offers for Harden.

4) Fields is a SF, that fits uptempo basketball, with players that are willing to move the basketball. He is improved much since his rookie year but is playing a position at SG that
does not fit well with his skills and Carmelo Anthony. He still has the ability to improve his shot, something he can learn with his worth ethic.

5) The rest of our roster that has less value, but teams could have interest in buying low for

1) Jorts a backup Center with the ability to hit the 3point shot and play solid man to man defense

2) Novak *if we win early bird rights* not sure if we can S&T him, but he is still one of the best pure shooters in league*

3) Jeffries (do we own his early bird rights?) One of the best backup F/C with team defense and 110% HEART

4) Jerome Jordan never got a real chance to play much with the Knicks but seems to have the potential to be a decent back up Center with legit size.
He is still very raw and could be a stashed to be teams project while playing a 3rd option center for next year.
Jordan has shown some post moves, decent help defense with blocks/rebounds, and the ability to hit a 17footer.

5) TD *he had a horrible year but teams may still buy low for his services*
He is not a PG and cannot be a facilitator but he can be a deadly 3point shooter. He has a the ability to be a good defender and is a gym rat.
Like many players in the past in New York, he just find a role on another team once he is moved, not being able to play the pressure of playing in New York.
With the right players, system, coaching, and a confidence boost, he can be very nice rotation player.

For instance, if he played OKC or Heat, he wouldn't be asked to facilitate and play the PG on offense. IN OKC With Harden, Westbrook, Durant / HEAT Lebron or Wade
With all the attention that those "STARS" get on the teams, TD would fit with the 2nd unit, he would just need to hit his 3point shot, spread the floor, and play solid defense.

Man we suck guys. I wouldnt trade JR Smith if he takes the option he is cheap and worth keeping.Im really depressed with what the Knicks are. So much hope a year ago. Now Im convinced this team is a first round exit every year. Shumpert was a player that could of made a difference and he is probably never going to be the same.Lin is taking the whole mid level so this team isnt adding anybody. Please explain to me how we arent an 6-8 seed again

It all comes down to chemestry. A year ago if someone told you our supporting cast for Melo and Stoudemire would be a DPOY at center, a PG who took the world by storm, 2 consecutive 1st team rookies, plus JR Smith, you would think we had a contender. That is the case here, so we just have to roll with the punches and hope this team can figure some things out.

Not so fast on that. Brooklyn has a ton of cap space if players leave or not, and the new location and high-profile owners will attract a lot of talent. You just don't know.

Assuming Deron opts out, they would have less than $18 mil in guaranteed salary - around $13 mil if Farmar too opts out.

They had cap space the last couple of years and attracted no one. Maybe some things change for them, but they will attract 3rd tier guys like Ilyasova at best.

Well now it's definite that they're in NYC and they have cap space for possibly three max contract players. You can use that cap space in trades too. Unless the rule changed, if the Nets are trading with another team under the cap, the salary don't have to match. If a team has a very good player making $9 mil that they can't afford, you can send a guy making $800,000 for him.

I have some questions if anyone can answer....

1)anyone know which sites have been doing a pretty good job in making Mock drafts?
2)Which ones have been horrible?
3)Which ones have been accurate in terms of evaluating talent?
I currently look at NBADraftExpress and NBADRAFT.NET, while they both have some players drafted in similar picks, they have some players that will fall out of the draft vs being picked in the early 2nd round....

With all the SG's that are strong in this draft that are NBA ready and many solid role players in this draft...
I think a few players just might fall out of the lottery, allowing us to find cheap talent, and allow us to build our yoots with a small portion of an the MLE.

Kim English
Jae Crowder

Henry Sims
Bernard James

Are some players that I feel might be available with our current pick and might even fall out of the draft in which we could invite to training camp.

4)I know we aren't able to buy picks before next season officially starts, but is it possible to buy the rights to players drafted once the next season starts at July 1st?

With players drafted in the 1st round or in the 2nd round?

There are many teams with multiple draft picks, that we just might be able to buy or/and trade for.
I think we would need to move up to the late 1st round to early 2nd round if we wanted to acquire a player like DJO and Jared Cunningham.
Both of which are NBA ready to contribute with good potential to continue to develop.

I think the 2 PGs that are the top in this draft are

Damian Lillard
Kendall Marshall

There are quite a lot of centers that have good skills and potential in this draft as well.

Anthony Davis probably closer to PF, but length of a center.

Andre Drummond
Meyers Leonard
Tyler Zeller

I think are all 3 very solid players, not far behind each other, with solid size, skills, and potential.
I agree with Briggs, that Anthony Davis has great reach and potential, but lacks the size that some of these guys have.
He is interesting mainly because of his reach/length, winning the NCAA boosted his value, and has guard skills for his size.
However, he is a tweener that isn't full developed.
Unlike some of these centers, we will have to see how his body fills out before determining his skills match up in the NBA and what position he plays in the NBA.

There are many projects that are raw that will take a couple of years to develop like

Fab Melo
