According to the article, "Any team that has Odom on its roster by that date will be responsible for paying him the $2.4 million in guaranteed money he's owed next year."
Missed that, because I skimmed it from my phone. No go, then.
I don't understand that part of the article myself, because later it says:"If the Mavericks are forced to waive Odom, he would become a free agent. In that scenario, the Queens native would likely be looking at a significant pay cut from the $8.2 he was scheduled to make this season."So is the contract only 2.4 million or is that the only guaranteed portion?? They why do the Mavs get on the Hook for the full 8.2 million if they cut him???
Are they saying if they cut him before June 29 they owe him 8 million or after???
I would sign Odom to the LLE after all of this is cleared up.
like Billups on the Knicks last season and Vince Carter when he was on The Suns. The 2.4m is guaranteed, not the whole 8.4m or w/e.
If they waive him, teams that are under the cap I believe, have the ability to take his contract.
Which generally most likely will not happen, why pay the man 8.4m with all these amnesty candidates coming up this year.
I think I would prefer AK47 because of his length and shot blocking ability, especially to pair up with Tyson Chandler.
I have interest in Odom, because of his ability to play point/forward, has a good all round game, and he is a from NY.
Kenyon Martin looks pretty much like the same player on The Nets, with a better shot, still good defender, and has the same athletic ability after all these surgeries and years.
This is my understanding of Odom's contract: His contract for next year is $8.2M, but before that becomes guaranteed for next season, the team that has him can buy that out for $2.4M and then he would become an UFA. IMHO there is no way a team will pay Odom $8.2M next year, so he will get his $2.4 from Dallas and then be on the market.
I highly doubt any team would spend more than say $2M on him next year, so the vet min would probably come into play.
I would think that Odom would only play in a high market, big city with big lights team, so LA or NY. Or he would play on a team with a big city with a lot of vets like Boston. I doubt he plays in a smaller market team.
