Missed that, because I skimmed it from my phone. No go, then.

I don't understand that part of the article myself, because later it says:"If the Mavericks are forced to waive Odom, he would become a free agent. In that scenario, the Queens native would likely be looking at a significant pay cut from the $8.2 he was scheduled to make this season."

So is the contract only 2.4 million or is that the only guaranteed portion?? They why do the Mavs get on the Hook for the full 8.2 million if they cut him???

I have interest in Odom, because of his ability to play point/forward, has a good all round game, and he is a from NY.

Kenyon Martin looks pretty much like the same player on The Nets, with a better shot, still good defender, and has the same athletic ability after all these surgeries and years.

Just say NO!

He's put up nice numbers, but I don't think he is a winner.

The off the court distractions would be huge- we just don't need that.

Lamar has a lot of talent--its a no brainer for the right price. If he is still getting paid by the Mavs--vet minimum. We could use his inside outside game

Odom's #1 asset be would bring to the knicks other than defense and rebounding and ability to score from anywhere on the court is his passing. Amare starts and goes to the bench early which keeps him healthy and fresh at the end of the year and odom and melo compliment each other perfectly.

Go after Kidd too, draft the PG from Cuse and let JR walk. Sign Belinelli or Courtney Lee

Right on.
And he's 33. How much will we really get from him and what will his value be later? Why does this organization keep letting guys enjoy their twilight years in the orange and blue? Let him go somewhere else and get some youth.

We have youth. We need to win now. We need vets who are capable of playing right away in case of injuries and such. You know the thing that derailed our chances in the playoffs 2yrs in a row. Odom comes cheap

Didn't he win a few titles in LA?

Sorry -did he win those without Kobe and Phil Jackson?

And what again did he do in Dallas? He led them into the play offs this year, right?

Did Tyson Chandler "the champion" win without Dirk? You need role players. Skill veteran role players are a huge bonus

I couldnt disagree more. Miami is older. they're big 3 is as old as our star players. Mike miller, Shane Battier, Haslem etc. San Antonio Duncan, parker, Gino eben older. Lakers kobe gasol, celtics, kg, pierce, allen. Who besides OKC is young and competing for a title? The Nuggets, Sixers, the Nets?

Miami does not have jeremy lin and iman shumpert on their roster

I would sign Odom to the LLE after all of this is cleared up.

like Billups on the Knicks last season and Vince Carter when he was on The Suns. The 2.4m is guaranteed, not the whole 8.4m or w/e.
If they waive him, teams that are under the cap I believe, have the ability to take his contract.

Kenyon Martin looks pretty much like the same player on The Nets, with a better shot, still good defender, and has the same athletic ability after all these surgeries and years.

This is my understanding of Odom's contract: His contract for next year is $8.2M, but before that becomes guaranteed for next season, the team that has him can buy that out for $2.4M and then he would become an UFA. IMHO there is no way a team will pay Odom $8.2M next year, so he will get his $2.4 from Dallas and then be on the market.

I highly doubt any team would spend more than say $2M on him next year, so the vet min would probably come into play.

I would think that Odom would only play in a high market, big city with big lights team, so LA or NY. Or he would play on a team with a big city with a lot of vets like Boston. I doubt he plays in a smaller market team.

Sure, if we had real stars, I'd have no problem with their ages. A team should be either in a position where it has the stars needed to compete for a title or is young and rebuilding. We're old without the stars needed to compete for a title!
