As assembled, with the core pieces of Melo, Stat and Chandler- the three players that take up 5/6th of our cap, can we win a championship?
Yes, Melo & Stat are awesome
No
Maybe yes, but one of those core pieces will have to be traded

Tim Duncan is playing awesome. He said he is in great shape and best he felt in years.

All in a season where the compressed schedule has chewed up players and spit them out.

Why?

He said his minutes per game are down. His averages are lower but his per 48 are still in line.

How can spurs do it? They got depth.

When you have depth you don't get hurt as much. Miami might not fulfil their goal because of Bosh. Maybe Dwade goes down if fatiqued.

If we can stay healthy and score more points then the team we are playing we can win.

The guys in this group can definitely win a title. Just not together, and not with us.

Lin- the person not under contract whom we might not resign this summer? OK!

I'd include him and Shup as well, but they aren't part of a 'big three', but both showed signs of being stars.

And I think that is the only chance we have at a championship - that Lin turns into Nash-lite, with 15 & 7 type numbers, and Shup turns into a Sprewell lite - with similar 16+ & 2 steals per game.

I agree and Shump tearing up his knee doesnt help

I would ask instead can this group advance in the playoffs. To me, you first have to get into the playoffs to have a chance to win a championship. I know there is a "championship or nothing" philosophy that advocates blowing up the roster and building through the draft, but I don't buy it.

Should the Knicks pursue trades to make the team better? Sure, if we can and if the trades can result in a more balanced roster - absolutely. But I think it is also worth giving this roster and coach another go at it. (I am assuming, as other posters have, that Lin will be on the team next year.)

https:// It's not so hard.

Unless a good deal comes along for Stoudemire (unlikely), give this roster a go but look to add diamond in the rough, rotation players for the minimum. We need a backup PG and a SG who can shoot the ball. We have a second round pick, which we can add a rotation player with, and look at overseas and current FAs. We can find those lin-novak players for the minimum, they are out there.

They can win titles when they sign for the vet min to play alongside Durant, Westbrook, and Harden.

I want to say yea. Just to many variables for a poll.

What about the draft? (If you get good rotation players that changes everything)
What if the core improves? (Doubtful for some, but doable)
What about Jlins & Shump? (Will they come back 100%)

Its a roller coaster ride at six flags being a knick fan. The season has so much turmoil and the off-season seems to be heading that way also. Its like a junkie that gets his fix then hits rock bottom. Can we improve?

There's a lot to prove if these players have pride or even care. Beginning with MELO & Amare. They know there under the microscope and are being spoken about in the grapevines. They fail to show heart, improvements next season its a BIG F you from the knick fan base or the loyal one that still shockingly exist.

So everything comes back to: be careful, don't get hurt.

What would the season have been like with none of our starphucques getting hurt? and Lin healthy the whole way?

Probably not very different. Our three starphucks played about 85% of the games.

I think there is potential here with Fields, Lin, Shump, Melo, Tyson, Amare, but a number of things need to happen.

1. Carmelo get your fat ass in shape
2. Amare drop 15 pounds and regain the quickness he lost
3. Shumpert needs to be healthy and improve his outside shot
4. We need to retain Bird Rights so we can sign Andre Miller, Nash is getting more money in Dallas or a better situation in LA
5. Lin needs to average 14pts 7rbs
6. We need to draft someone with some balls that can get in people's faces
7. Melo ball needs to be destroyed

If we can accomplish that list the Knicks can be a challenger, but the chances of Melo buying into an offense where ball movement is stressed and getting in the shape he needs to punish everyone he faces is a pipe dream.

Bird rights is going to either change the course of this franchise or we are going to be the Atlanta Hawks

Can the core group we have ever win a title?
