You guys actually think it's easy to catch a ball and dunk it in one motion while flying thru the air the way he does? Dude is 7' tall and too often we pass to him in traffic below his waist. It's not that he has hands of stone, but rather that you're making it harder for him to handle the ball when you pass it to him like that. I don't care what you say the dude doesn't have bad hands. He may not have the "best" ever, but he's not as bad as you're making him out to be.

Chandler must have caught the fumble-itis virus from Stat - dude has bad hands. Maybe thats why he cant shoot a lick

As JVG stated, "he is an excellent passer"

If he could average 1 more assist per game that would really make him great. I hope to see that next year.

Will Landry shoot better? Will Tyson get lasik surgery and daily hand massages to get softer hands? No but on the real Melody really could do better and needs to instill confidence in his teammates Ans trust them more.

For one thing Tyson has great hands and it's not his fault that after Lin went down he really didn't get good passes.

If you make good timely passes guys will hit more shots, also you can hit those guys when they slash or cut towards the basket which Melo doesn't do enough of, cuz he wants to take the shot all the time. Melo thinks that those cuts are only to clear out so he can shoot it. once in a while he'll make the pass and you think why doesn't he do that more often, cuz he'd avg 6 assists a game if he did.

Melo averaged 3.7 assists this year which was fourth at his position behind Lebron, PP and Iggy. How is that a "bad passer"?

He would have had more if he played with a PG and/or a SG that can actually shoot.

I hope to see him average 4.5 next year with him looking more and the shooters being better.

This whole discussion is ridiculous. On the Year, Tyson has caught and converted or drawn the foul on more passes than he's missed. Often the pass is not delivered in the best way to get it to him and I think that has led to many of his missed catches. It certainly doesn't have anything to do with his shooting, which is an entirely different matter. Stop making low bounce passes in traffic with the wrong angle on them and he'll catch even more of them.

You can blame bounce passes or blame anything that makes you feel better - his hands are not good. He fumbles way to many passes. He is good at catching alley oops though.

How sad that he is so limited offensively.

Hopefully next year he will work on his game and not be a no show in the playoffs.

GREAT DEFENDER AND LEADER

Amare indeed has bad hands too, especially passes delivered below his waist, which is quite a lot of space since Amare is very long-legged.

A few comments:
A) Melo's passing was a pleasant surprise this year;
B) If you want to determine how good a passer someone is, you have to factor in turnovers too, which will lower your assessment of Melo;
C) Melo's play overall was better under Woodson but his assists plummeted.

The easiest example is that they cannot be guarded one on one all the time therefore they draw double teams and make the necessary pass to get a teammate a layup or a wide open shot. But many players are intelligent passers who know how to set up their teammates for good looks and initiate ball movement.

Melo's passing was pretty good this year. He made some poor decisions. But it was really his inconsistent shot, missed layups, combined with his usual poor shot selection that made him tough to watch most of the year.
