Well then they need to break up the LeBron, Wade, and Bosh team because it gives an unfair advantage to other teams. All of the owners should unite together on this. They have 2 of the top 5 players in the league and 3 of the top 10. That is unfair!! Sterns should break up the team point blank!!.

Papabear, the reason the heat are able to affored LeBron, Wade, and Bosh and still be under the cap is because they first drafted Dwayne Wade. That enabled them to have his bird rights. They resigned him to max money and it didnt count against their cap, because well they're bird rights. With talent like Wade and a city like miami, which sells itself, they were able to attract two great free agents to their team. They then had the room to sign LeBron to max money and still sign Bosh to max money. They even still had the room to pay pretty decent role players and still, all of this while under the cap.
Now they have a pretty good shot at a championship or even championships.

Kinda makes me wish Knicks management and ownership was as smart .

Having Bird rights enables a team to resign and go over the cap (while still counting against the cap). Signing Lebron and Bosh at the same time as Wade resigned, the Heat still had to fit them under the cap. So I am not sure I understand what you are saying.

It counts against your cap when it comes to paying dollar for dollar luxury tax under the current cba it is matching the dollar for dollar provision of the old agreement. However, it doesnt count against being able to sign roll players if one of their max players was signed under his bird rights. That is how the Heat are able to afford a good roll player like, say Mike Miller. Well they will be able to afford him up until the 2013-2014 season that is. That is when his salary will make the heat pay significantly more into the new tiered tax to the NBA, at which point he will probably be amnestied. But the point is the Heat had the flexibility to sign three max players and good roll players because Wade is signed under his bird rights. He is signed under his bird rights because he was drafted by the same team he is playing for now. If he was any other max player without bird rights the heat would not be able to sign said player and good roll players. It would be an either/or situation.

I extrapolated it a bit differently from this statement:

Yea, I see how you got that. My fault for not explaining my thinking in its entirety the first go 'round.

IMO, the big three in Miami has inhibited them from being really deep. If they just had Wade and Lebron, they might have been able to build a better supporting cast.

I think that SA and OKC are much much deeper though they don't have a Lebron. I think and HOPE that the Heat lost to one of those teams.

Well I guess we are all screwed for the next 10 years again because with this team that we have here we aint never winning a championship. I was one of the people who wanted the Melo trade but now I wonder.IF Making that Melo trade destroyed us. Melo seems to be a guy very happy getting the ball all the time and screw making other players better. Melo needs to get one thing straight. He will never win anything by himself. I do give the heat credit for one thing and that is the love a respect that LeBron, Wade ,and Bosh have for one another. I don't see that ever happening in Melo and Lin. I do not believe Melo likes Lin too much. It's like this either we play Melo ball or we all go home. This is really sad that Dolan would hold on to his cash cow Lin even if it ment being able to get a star player. and Melo must adjust his game because I don't care if he score 40 points a night we have one equasion missing and that is players will not give their all and all to a ball hog. Which leaves me to this for the next 5 - 10 years the way things look we ain't winning a thing.
