My last memory of him was when we lost to him, Oakley and Vinsanity in the playoffs. Our last playoff win b4 the record 13 losses came in that same series. I actually liked him as a player but not after he singlehandedly crushed our playoff run, that was a hard loss to swallow.

Chris Childs joined the Raptors in 2001, just in time for the team’s most successful year in franchise history. That year, he averaged 4.5ppg and 4.6apg; and was a key player off the bench for the Raptors in both the 1st round series against the Knicks, and the legendary 2nd round series against the 76ers.

He was always second fiddle to Alvin Williams – starting only nine times in his Raptor career; but his strong play off the bench helped the team get to the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, and was significant enough to earn him a place in our top 30.

Unfortunately though, for many Raptors fans, Chris Childs will be remember most for his moronic decision in the 2002 playoffs. In game five against the Pistons, Childs took a nauseating half-court shot with 10 seconds left on the clock – completely ignoring the wide-open 3-point specialist Dell Curry. It was that decision that ultimately knocked the Raptors out of the playoffs.

When asked about his decision in the post-game interview; Childs kept saying that the Raptors were down by four, not three. It was indeed a frustrating moment for all Raptor fans.

The decision itself, is only rivaled probably by Chris Webber’s infamous timeout in the 1993 NCAA final.

Who knows where Chris Childs would’ve stood had he not made that blunder.

And this:

n 2001, Childs was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Mark Jackson and Muggsy Bogues, with whom he played for one-and-a-half seasons before rejoining the Nets in 2002. However, his second tenure with the Nets was disastrous, as he was suspended by the team for being overweight and out-of-shape at the beginning of the season. After twelve games in which he averaged just 1.3 points, he was finally waived and saw his NBA career come to a close.

In 2002, Childs also made the news when he was robbed at gunpoint in an incident at a Manhattan nightclub owned by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. He allegedly lost over $30,000 in jewelery and cash.

And more on his final days with the Nets in 2002:

The 34-year-old Childs, making his second go-round with the Nets in what he acknowledges is the twilight of his career, reported to training camp about 20 pounds overweight and with tendinitis in his right Achilles' tendon. His poor physical condition led Thorn to suspend Childs until he was ready to play.

Although Childs was noticeably lighter today, he must still prove himself. He remains on the suspended list, a status that Thorn said would be day to day. Childs has already lost more than $300,000 in salary during his suspension. If he is moved to the injured list in time for Wednesday's game in Phoenix, he will begin to earn on the two-year, $3.6 million contract he signed this summer.

''I had a lot of personal issues this summer,'' said Childs, who also cited an aching right leg as a reason that he lost his desire to do the things necessary to play. ''We talked about that. Nothing makes me feel better than coming out here on the court. I'm not the only one that has personal issues, so I can't use that as an excuse. Once the game is over you have to live life on life's terms. Then you deal with your problems. I let it carry over into my job and that's not right.''

He was eventually bought out after a series of run ins with the coach.

Thanks for your help, but I can use Google and Wikipedia too. I was wondering more about where he is/what he is up to NOW(not back in 2002.) Just out of curiousty- what is he doing-is he coaching, maybe broadcasting, is he just kicking back at the country club living the rich guy life, OR is he one of those athletes who has unfortunately blown threw his millions and has to work the 9-5 like the rest of us?

Maybe we can sign him to the league minimum to back up Lin and Nash and Felton...
[that's sarcasm, by the way]
