I can definitely see some Brooklynites converting over to the Nyets and supporting their borrough. I'm from the Bronx and I could care less about Brooklyn, as many other residents of the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, etc. The Nyets are not representing NY as whole, IMO, so to me its not the same as the NY Mets and NY Yankees.

Yea Uptown, I always thought that too. Surprised they left the money on the table by not naming themselves "New York" again. But Brooklyn is a BIG brand name worldwide thanks to Spike and Biggie and Williamsburg: Brooklyn Industries, Brooklyn Beer, Brooklyn Decker...
I'm from North Jersey, but I got started watching Knicks on NBC Saturdays and in the playoffs. It was easier for me to take to get to Penn Station than the Swamp and now I live in Manhattan. Had an ex-gf from Queens and she wasn't much about Brooklyn, there's a lot of borough pride. But I will inevitably be a Brooklyn resident by year's end, it's the place to be for me. A lot of people in the Tri-State have family and personal connections to Brooklyn, it's a great place and as the biggest borough is becoming the cultural and commercial center of the city. Box seats in MSG go to the Wall Streeters, while at Barclays it's some guys from a DUMBO design firm?
The funny thing, I've been to more Nets games than Knicks because tickets were cheaper and more available. Was really hoping they'd stay in Newark. I wonder how ticket sales are going to be in Brooklyn? New Yorkers love standing in line for the hot new thing. Forget about it if they put a Shake Shack or food trucks or some **** in there. A lot of Brooklyn Knicks fans will be spending time in that Bait-and-Switch-Barclays Arena.
They are definitely poised to snatch up the next generation of fans. That's also why Dolan won't get rid of Melo. You don't give up a potential HOF talent so easily with your crosstown rival breathing down your neck. Imagine the scenario of the J-Kidd Finals-level teams playing in Brooklyn while the Knicks wallow in mediocrity with no stars? They could move from second-place in terms of juice... Knicks have a lot more legacy, good and bad.
If they are smart, the jerseys say "Brooklyn" on home and away, like the Knicks do. No mention of the Nets, and only that secondary "B - Brooklyn New York" logo. That jersey will sell like crack.
