If you bring in Phil Jax, you better either get Melo to buy in or trade him.

His effort level on D after MDA resigned was great, but it only underscored how much he wasn't doing throughout his career. He most certainly has the ability to be a more capable passer out of double teams, but he hasn't always been a truly WILLING passer given all the opportunities he has to do so. He's had some really good passing games, but overall he always reverts to being a scorer, even when it's obvious that he should be passing. His extreme confidence in his shot is both a blessing and a curse.

When a player truly learns to trust his teammates that's when he arrives. Sure Melo has top tier talent, but he has to know that he alone can't win and it's in his best interests to learn the TEAM game. What's frustrating is seeing glimpses of what he could be. He most certainly has the talent to lead a team in every facet. He made it worse by showing us just how good he could've been playing over the last 24 games of the season. Now the fanbase knows that he has the ability to play at a higher level, so when he doesn't it makes it harder to accept less than his best. Really the last thing he has to do is learn how to make his teammates better, which is what MDA was trying to teach him. People want to make MDA out to be the bad guy as if he was trying to take something away from Melo. He was trying to teach him about winning BB but too many Knicks fans took it the same way Melo did. Like he was trying to emasculate him. He was trying to empower him to take full control of his team in a way that would lead to real winning and not just going solo in regular season games. Imagine if Melo really put his all into trying to learn how to balance setting up his teammates off of his double teams and perfected it!!!

We just have to wait and see how MDA does with his next team. personaly dont think he was teaching anything but fastbreaks and three point shots. could be a good college or H.S. coach though.

Im hoping he does gets traded. its just hard to listen to sports radio in NY. The hate these white old men have for Melo and J R is out of control. Im hoping they can bring Gallo Moz Wilson and Felton back.

If Phil comes in Melo will listen. I heard an interview with Shaq a while back about when Phil started coaching the Lakers. He basicially said the guy has won it 6 times so we should just listen and do what he says, it obviously works.

Besides, Melo has been listening to Woody just fine.

MDA was trying to teach Melo how to make his teammates better? MDA taught that regardeless of how good you are everyone gets equal shots, even when guys shoot 29% from 3 land. Just shoot baby. It's not like Melo doesn't pass or pass out of double teams. Against Chicago didn't Melo pass the ball to Feilds and Novak who both missed until Melo figured he needed to hit the shot? Oh yeah, Melo also said he would make the pass 100% of the time because he trusts his teammates.

Like Kobe. I know.

That's your default response to criticism of Melo's shot selection? If Kobe takes bad shots, it must be a great idea for Melo to take them too.

Bad shots are good if they go in and bad if they don't.

Yogi was a bad ball hitter but he still hit the ball - that made him a hall of famer.

Gambling that you get heads five times in a row is a bad choice. If you make the gamble and do get heads 5 times in a row, you still shouldn't have made the gamble and never should again. You can make off-balance fade-away shots occasionally but the worse thing you could conclude from that is that the off-balance shots are good ones that you should continue taking.

When MJ starting shooting that fade away baseline J you probably said the thing. Then, when he starting hitting hit alot you probably shut up.

Then, you probably did the same with Kobe.

Again, a shot that looks bad but goes in consistently is GOOD.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have the opportunity to dunk on every play. I wish they did. Then YOU won't say: "why don't they dunk every play? Its a much higher percentage shot."

I look for a players (PG, SG, SF) FG to be greater than 45 pct.

Then you must consider these guys to be below average if not awful scorers:
John Starks
Latrell Sprewell
Paul Pierce
Russell Westbrook
Joe Johnson
Jason Terry

You're using a bad metric to evaluate offensive efficiency. It should not be surprising that you're reaching bad conclusions. I'd expect more - even from a nutty lawyer!

Even if we were to use FG%, the average player is around .460. So all you're really saying is "I look for players to be greater than below average"
It would be comparable to my saying "I look for the student's average to be better than a C-" when deciding who to look for as a research assistant.

And please nobody mention that our chief Starphucque was a game or two away from the Finals playing with Chauncey and a bunch of misfit toys.

But nevermind that, let's all embrace the ESPNY frame of mind where only John Sterling is a homer and it's cool to be a whining, shat on your team kind of fan. Breen's great; "Melo carried the team in April, but he's a ubiquitous iso ball hog now. Probably because that's all he can really ever be."

Pee in your own water dish, that's the new york way.

Melo can take bad shots, he just doesn’t have to do it constantly during the games (especially playoff games) he must be selective and pickup his spot.
And please lets not start with this Kobe and MJ did it, so Melo can do it too, those two guys are clearly in another galaxy way ahead and beyond Melos.

year after year the "old white men" and the "old black men" spewing hate at the knicks has yielded more truth than homers can digest.

If "old white men" is your defense in Melo then perhaps your losing the perspective.

some of us just want to win.

Too many voices being critical of Melo for too many years. Few doubt his ability but when your "StarMelo" you got to bring it and succeed. Success is more than him going for 30.

Don't feel bad for Melo, he is a huge financial success and a big celebrity. He has been created by the fans, enabled and embraced by many. Its his chosen profession and he knows the pitfalls of playing in NYC.

All we wanted was a competitive series. We did not have a strong PG most of the season and we ended very strong without Lin.

In NYC everything is magnified.

[/quote Im a Knick fan 1st. If Melo was traded today I could care less for him. I will hope that whom ever we were to get for him can help us. you will not hear me bitch and cry cause nothing is going to change. I been a die hard Knicks fan since the early 70's I've seen it all.

Breen in his effort to show that he isn't a homer tends to degrade the Knicks especially Melo. Deep down I think he blames Melo for MDA being let go. Another thing about Breen is he always sides with the refs no matter how awful the call is. He only changes his thinking when JVG ridicule the call, even then he will side with the refereeing not totally agreeing with JVG.

I was watching the Lakers game noticed how Kobe was able to work with Gasol and Bynum. Melo can't do the same with Amare. Melo is a post player and Amare is not. I really think Sessions helps their situation a lot he was the one getting everyone involved and Gasol has to be the best
passing Big man in the game. Amare needs to learn from Gasol on passing.

Amare needs to watch videos of James worthy. Same build and both quick. James had a good handle and great outside shot.

Lets put it this way Melo needs to get a trip to finals to at least be up there with Stockton, Malone, Ewing and Barkley. Greats if there generation who did not get a ring.

Melo is trending along the lines of McGrady, David Thompson, Dominique Wilkens, Vince, Glenn Rice and Bigg Dogg Robinson,

They were not failures by any means.

Melo is the devil we get it. If Kobe never played with a talented big he'd never have a ring.

Grunwald needs to just remodel the team around Melo.

Same arguement we used for Ewing.

If Kobe does NOT win then he would have been grilled even worse.

There is not evidence our trade for him made us better or worse.

True but this team was going NOWHERE we sucked for like a decade man. The draft wasn't helping so we had to try something different. Knicks would never tank to get a high pick anyway.

The thing is we have tradeable assets in Chandler, Amare, and Lin. Management just needs to have the balls to make a move. The Lakers understand that concept very well. If it's not working someone has to go.
