Novak isn't useless, he needs plays to be ran for him. His play reflects more on Woody than Novak.
I think it reflects Miami's defense.
Part of it. But not all.
The head plays great strong side D on Novak as every other team does since he became known as the best 3 point shooter. The way to get him open is to run him off screens which we seem only able to do at the end of a game when we are down 3. When Novak is on the weakside they use his man to doubleteam anyone who penetrates. This is why we got so many charges in the 1st game. Once we drove to the hoop we got tunnel vision and never looked for a wide open Novak on the weakside.
It would also help if Novak was a little versatile. He needs to make teams pay for their over play but he does the NY shuffle behind the three. Like most analyst say though role players usually play better at home when the crowd is behind them. I think the Knicks when the next two.
