They haven't, but then again neither did the 1997 Knicks during the regular season. In fact even in 1999, that starting team didn't really mesh well, and it was only when Sprewell or Camby came in that they'd start to get things going.
I think people are focusing a bit too much on this issue- as long as they can mesh together defensively (like Van Gundy said earlier in the year), then it'll be fine- the bench can come in a and build up a lead, then the coach can mix and match the lineup depending on what kind of game everyones having.
I think if Amare can play like this and keep it up - then we are the most dangerous team when Stat, Melo, and Tyson are on the floor. You have to honor Melo and Stat with your D and that leaves players like Smith and Novak wide open.
Maybe Stat took all that time off and really got his body in gear for a great playoff run. It certainly looks that way from the bobcats game. The question is can be perform like this consistently and against the best teams in the league on a long playoff run? That remains to be seen but he has certainly given us enough to be excited about.
Now we jus need to lock down the Heat and show them what NYK is all about.
