yep. he won't get the votes because the national media hates NY... though seriously, who the heck is better? if dwight gets it again the award is a joke.

to me, tyson HAS to be DPOY. he has taken this team to a top 5 defensive team when they were horrible before.

Agree completely. I think if the Knnicks squeeze into the 6th seed somehow, he'll definitely be a top 2 or 3 consideration.

I thought Van Gundy made a great point about that tech Tyson picked up yesterday. Boozer bumped into him and Tyson immediately smacked the ball out of his hands and likely said something very filthy about Boozer's mom. A legit tech (and God help us, he only has a couple left before suspension), but JVG said that's what makes Tyson, Tyson.

Totally agree with that. Charles Oakley picks up that tech. Anthony Mason picks up that tech. Love it.

I hated having no real centre all those years- and Eddy Curry doesn't count. Having to watch teams just pummel us in the paint, with no answer, always undersized- it was frustrating, especially since we were so used to having players like Ewing and Camby.

I was so happy when we signed Chandler, and although he came with a good reputation, he's really surprised me with his attitude and leadership- just a great, great signing.

Just an underrated player period. Those volleyball tap outs 9 out of 10 times find a Knicks player. Unquestioned MVP of the Knicks this season.

Cube made a mistake with Nash but go back and it was Nash's back issues at that age, at that time.

Dampier was a blunder.

Tyson is not the best player on our team but is our MVP.

We have made impressive runs with and without Amare, Lin and Melo. But Tyson was the one constant.

If you look at Tysons injury history and the money he was being offered by other like the knicks its easy to see why Cube did what he did.

He did offer Tyson a big one year deal to come back but he wanteda multi year. Can't blame him or Cube.

Cube knew it would hurt him this year.

Guys like Cube are not just thinking one year at a time like our simpleton owner.

He's set the tone defensively even pre-Woody. Looks and sounds like he don't take sheehit from anyone on the team, too. Chips will do that for you.

His signing shows that billions don't necessarily buy you brains.
That's right, yeah, I'm talking to you Cuban, from right down here in the 12% tax bracket.

It's kind of funny that he wouldn't spend for Chandler but he has for guys like Dampier and Haywood

Cuban made teh same mistake with nash because if he kept nash the mavs would have won a title probably in 05 and 06. Anyway Chandler is our MVP no doubt

According to John Hollinger, he should be Defensive Player of the Year

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/16458/hollinger-tyson-chandler-deserves-dpoy

ESPN.com's John Hollinger argues that Tyson Chandler is the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when a prominent New York Knicks player was also massively underrated. Yet here we are.

What a refreshing turn of events. For nearly 20 years, the only interesting debate we've had about most Knicks players has been whether they're merely overrated or are phenomenally overrated. That's what happens in the league's biggest market, especially when the fans have been starved for more than a decade of both a superstar player and a consistent winner.

Given those circumstances, I would have thought it impossible for somebody to play well in the league's biggest market yet remain so far outside the hype zone. Yet somehow, one player has managed that feat.

Ask anyone who the Knicks' best player is, and chances are the person won't come up with the right answer until the fourth guess. New York's best player is not as famous as Jeremy Lin nor as glamorous as Carmelo Anthony, nor did he arrive with as much fanfare as Amare Stoudemire.

But as far as winning basketball games? Tyson Chandler is the guy, the one Knick who has proved to be absolutely indispensable in making the team relevant again.

the difference between him being the knicks MVP vs a candidate for league MVP is any sort of jumper. I wonder if he actually works hard on it and just can't make it happen or it is just not his focus. If he had that, boy!!! Thats why he is was not a Max Player.

Def Knicks MVP!! I love the mic'ed up defensive quaterbacking. Please!! NO MORE TECHS!!

6/6 from the field. 7/7 from the FT line. 19 points, 11 rebounds. Playing with 5 fouls for most of the 4th quarter. This is why we got him.

Tyson Chandler should certainly be DPOY. For once, I agree with John Hollinger.

I really can't see Tyson NOT getting DPOY at this point in the season. The impact he has had on this team all year speaks volumes. Only way Lebron gets it is if they base it on record.

Woody: Tyson deserves Defensive POY consideration

Since taking over as head coach in mid March, Mike Woodson has raved about Tyson Chandler's impact on the Knicks' defense.

Woodson believes that Chandler should "absolutely" be in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year.

And Chandler agrees, saying on Friday that he deserves to be considered.

Andre Igoudala, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard, among others, will get consideration as well.

But Woodson made a strong case for Chandler after Friday's shootaround.

"He's done everything to put us in the position where we are today," the Knicks interim head coach said. "You don't find very many centers that (are) committed like he is, don't have any hidden agendas. You know, it's not about Tyson Chandler, it's always about the team and, you know, that speaks volumes.

"There's a reason why he's a part of the team in Dallas that won a title (last season)," Woodson added. "He's a true pro man and yes he should be considered for it absolutely."

Chandler (11 ppg, 10 rig) has been the linchpin of a Knicks' defense ranked 5th in defensive efficiency, a measure of points allowed per 100 possessions. Last year, New York ranked 21st.

The 7-1 center is never one to promote himself, but he admitted that he deserves the award.

"It would mean an awful lot to me," he said. "That was one of my goals coming into the season. I felt like I put myself right in the thick of things, considerations. I personally feel like I deserve it. It would be a great honor to win it."

Knicks up to 4th in defensive efficiency rankings. To me, that's all Chandler and Shumpert's impact on this team. JR Smith and Jeffries have helped and the others guys are playing hard, too.

But when you have an elite perimeter defender and an elite big in the middle, it just makes everyone's job easier. For the record, I think Tyson has actually helped make Shumpert as effective as he is on D - Shump can take a few more risks and be more overly aggressive knowing that Tyson pretty much has the paint on lockdown.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The two most important defensive positions can be argued to be PG/G and Center. We have two ELITE defenders there. Taking out the opposing teams PG to set up and drive is a huge advantage and then to have a big guy in the middle that is athletic is huge.

The people doing the voting need to look at Dallas this year Vs last year, and us this year Vs last year. The impact of Chandler (and Shump) has been huge.
