Thats cool. My take is that the law that permitted Zimmerman to walk around with a gun and have the ability to claim a self-defense is the major problem. If Zimmerman was not allowed to have a gun--maybe this is just a fist fight as well. Race has nothing to do with a law that is rogue. Incidents between races happen--all of them rape murder assault etc.. that go unnoticed every day. Why is this case so special and we don't even know all of the facts? Does anyone here know all facts to this case--no. What we do know is that a young man is dead and he was killed by another man who was allowed under Florida law to carry and USE his weapon---that my friend is the problem

It doesn't bother you that an unarmed kid was obliterated by the fire arm of a man and it's "ok"? That doesn't bother you? If not, it should. It could happen to YOU if that's the case. And right now, it is seemingly only really bothering the people that look like Trayvon. Or the people who "get" it. Not rocket science. I think you're acknowledging that it is not just and then there is a "but" there. Injustice is injustice. The law needs to change and the man needs to be in jail. But for some reason, there is a disconnect with some people.

Yea, world without racism:

Police are investigating a possible race hate attack after a 13-year-old boy was doused in gasoline and set on fire.

The teenager, who suffered first degree burns to his face and hands, is white and his two attackers black.

'[One of them] poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, 'This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy'.

Where is the Moving and Powerful outrage here?

I have never heard of this case.

You haven't heard of it because it doesn't fit the narrative.

why don't you enlighten us by defining said narrative

There is a lot more to the issue with Trayvon! For one thing there is the historic inbalance of injustice towards minorities that persists to this day! The cases like Emmit Till where the killers are known and evidence is there and for purely racial reason justice is denied. We all know that there are bad things done by one race to another every day but there isn't the systematic injustice from a historic perspective going both ways. It's decidedly one sided!!!

I'm sure he'll get what's coming to him. Not so with Zimmerman. See the difference?

Yes, of course there's no difference.

1) Tyrone broke into an elderly couple's house, beat an old woman to death and stole their car.

That, is of course, the same as

2) the Zimmerman/Martin incident, because Zimmerman was parading around on a neighborhood watch with possible visions of police grandeur in his addled mind.

I can obviously see how there's a great similiarity and obvious miscarriage of justice between the two cases.

not quite clear how one would automatically surmise that from the video, BRIGGS (in terms of if the roles were reversed). this was video of a soccer game fight between two folks of different skin colors. is every fight between a white person and a person of color primarly race motivated?

of course not.

it could have been a racial based incident, sure...but either way, but this incident is nowhere near reflective of the way that young men of color are criminalized by our society, which i find hard understanding applies when we think of young white men.

ask yourself who we are more afraid of being attacking by on the street if you were walking alone, at night?

a teenage white male
a teenage black/brown/beige male

who do we more associate with wearing a hoodie and what do we tend to associate with someone who wears a hoodie?

when we are honest with ourselves about these questions i believe it is hard to deny what we know to be the sad truth. this truth would naturally lead to anger and frustration by anyone who experiences being targeted for living a way that is normal in one's day to day life, would it not? in nyc, the continued stop and frisk policy by the nypd and who are those overwhelmingly targeted by this policy speaks volumes to this.

there is plenty of evidence to suggest we have been conditioned to hold ideas about people because of all sorts of ways that make us different.

not even just race.

when folks call someone a woman on this forum, just for example, or we use the word, 'f*a**ot,' "city slicker," "hick," "gay" or a "hadji/towelhead/osama bin laden" to describe someone or their actions, is that not telling of views we hold of groups that may seem "other" to us in some way?

This response is comical. But hey I'll bite.

If the girl's punches turned her into a veg and she was walking free and was not investigated it WOULD be an outrage. However, she IS being investigated and charged. Not sure why you don't get that.

As for OJ, here is the difference in case you missed it. OJ Simpson WAS arrested. OJ Simpson WAS charged. OJ Simpson DID stand trial. The system DID get involved. The issue to take up there is with the 12 jurors.

Most people (with sense) agree (even the person who started this thread) that the law that allows someone like Zimmerman to do what he did is outrageous. Why? Because unlike OJ and unlike the girl in the clip, the man murdered a kid and is NOT being charged at all. Now do you see the difference?

As far as the race "card", the police chief saying "We may have missed the racial slur on the 911 call" may have something to do with it. The term race "card" is funny to begin with anyway. Anyone who calls it a "card" and not a current "reality" may be out of touch with the actual ills of it in their daily life.

The Zimmerman thing is disturbing because a non police officer sought out a a confrontation and shot an unarmed person and the police just take his word that he had to shoot him.

Tyrone tried to rob someone and killed her and he should face charges for it.

This isn't comparable.

It would be comparable if the two black kids said they had to set the white kid on fire in self defense and the police shrugged and said ok and left them alone.

In this country, when you kill or hurt another person, you're supposed to be investigated and arrested and tried.

Let's see if you can see this: the girl got tripped in a soccer game and came within a few minutes of beating another person to death or at least putting her in a hospital.

As far as OJ, let's see if you can follow this: He broke into a home and savagely murdered two people. Anyone disagreeing with that is obviously not among your true Scotmen group of "people with sense". And maybe you missed the videos, but the police did take Zimmerman into custody, unless you think being handcuffed is an example of non-involvement of the system. And since you obviously missed it, Zimmerman hasn't been charged with murder because neither you nor anyone else at this point can know for sure that that's what he did. But obviously "people with sense" know and see all things happening in Florida and know beyond any doubt that this was a murder.

Yes of course. Anyone who's take is not identical with yours is out of touch with "reality". And no one's saying the "card's" not real.

You think "America" would stand by while an unarmed girl was brutally murdered and the murderer walks free today? Nope. The outrage has more to do with a kid being killed and his (grown man) killer being free and not charged at all. And I agree it has to do with an unjust "law". And in the end, THAT'S where the outrage is. It's with the fact that this CAN happen and probably WILL happen again. For some of you, it would take for this to happen to someone that looks like YOU (or your family members) for you to want the laws to be changed. You feel no outrage because you feel totally disconnected from it. There's an issue there. And as far as you looking at the world without racism....more power to you. Would love for you to walk in the shoes of those who can not do that in their daily lives......not a possibility for them.

And I suppose if one of those 11 punches had turned the white girl into a vegetable or had killed her, you'd be giving us some other speech about "AmeriKa", right?

Hmmmm...lets review a little history shall we? OJ anyone? How was his golf game coming along before the last arrest occurred? Shock and outrage anyone?

Racism will continue for as long as folks on both sides of the issue/incidents continue to play the card.
Long live racism. Can't live with it and but you sure as hell don't want to be living without it.

Zoooooommmm! Right over your head. All the answers you are looking for are within this thread. Read and re-read. Trust me, a lot of people have answered your confusion already.

Let me clear something up here about the Trayvon Martin case.

The law allowed some wannabe cop (self appointed neghborhood watch captain) to roam the streets with an itchy trigger finger looking for trouble and ultimately kill anyone he might have considered to be "suspicious" simply because he claimed self defense.

The precedent here is that anyone in Florida who guns down another without any witnesses can claim self-defense and the legal process ends there.. like in this case. HENCE THE OUTRAGE!

But what is really happening in the the political realm is that REPUBLICANS in Florida passed this law and now some kid is dead because the law facilitated his murder. They Right wingers will NOT accept any culpability and hence have turned to smearing the victim like they always do.

that about sums it up....

I don't see the connection between this clip and the murder of Trayvon Martin. You've put this on a Knick message board for a reason I am assuming. What is your angle here?

Not comparing the crime--I'm comparing the outrage following this act. I believe if it was the other way around--an African American female getting beaten up quite badly by a Caucasian--this would've been a huge racial incident. In this case--its just a beat down that will go unnoticed except for youtube.

I believe the law that allowed this act to perpetuate to be the problem in the Travyon Martin case. I think that people have used *race* to loosely. This was an Hispanic man and an African American male--not exactly what is considered race bias for the most part in our country. The law allowing Zimmerman to carry the gun and use it--that is the major problem and the people who put it into law should be held accountable and the law immediately needs to be changed. Let's let the facts come out about this case and then let justice have it's way. I'm in no corner--I just tend to look forward to seeing a world without race issues

thats not the race problem. The race problem is another black man was shot and killed in America and the cops havent arrested anyone. If that was a nice white boy shot by a black dude in a hoodie who was "standing his ground" think an arrest would be made?

The soccer video chilled me.

I can only hope and pray if that happened to one of my kids Im not around because I would raced on that field and tackled that girl in full sprint like in my football days and I would have destroyed her. Fights happen, people get hot blooded, but that video was just a person raging and hurting another person. Glad charges were brought up.

If this was the other way around--it would be racial
