lol.

honestly, can someone explain this? the Knicks have been brutal in 3rd quarters all year long. they sucked under D'Antoni and even during the latest win streak they have still been routinely outscored coming out of the half.

WHY IS THIS?

Because Carmelo has decided he prefers Herb over Woodson.

I don't think it's new this year, eVil. Been doing the DTQ (Dreaded Third Quarter) for a long time.

i know man. it sucks. i hate it. and i can't understand it.

i was beginning to believe that Woodson's voice, philosophy, attitude and defensive emphasis was actually just what the doctor ordered. however, tonight i saw the same old Knicks.

Perhaps a shower at half time will let them come out "refreshed".

So now they will tune him out too. We are doomed...

BTW, Chandler played like crap.

Maybe they need to stop feeding players fresh young girls at the club to mess around with overnight. It's been done since the break of dawn. Ewing admitted to that system back when he was still playing for the Knicks..

What annoyed me was the return of the 31-17 3rd Q- I hate those, they seemed mandatory under D'Antoni and I hoped we'd seen the last of them with him gone- alas it seems they are an integral part of these players games.

That is true. The return of having no effort and practically folding in the third quarter was disappointing. I thought we would put a fight there as in the last games, but we simply folded. What the heck is wrong with this team and 3rds is beyond me. Not only they revert to whatever bad habit they have on offense, but they stop playing D.

Woody truly needs to address that and quickly.

that's the big fear here. was the increased effort real OR was it a temporary spurt in reaction to mda basically saying "i can't win with these dudes."?

how does a team with Amare and Melo only score 79 pts vs. the raptors???????

how do they continue to lose 3rd quarters badly? no matter who's coaching, they come out flat out of the half. i thought it was supposed to be mda's lack of adjustments or inability to make a rousing half-time speech. but apparently it's deeper than that.

i'm gonna miss tonight's game. hope they bounce back.

While I didn't think it was possible for them to continue to play at the extremes of where they had been playing, I do think that it's reasonable to expect that they can play far better than this. They've got a winnable game against Detroit and they MUST win this game. Any setback here could be a catastrophe. However, I do believe they will bounce back.

Still this does expose issues that were there underneath and haven't been addressed. It shows how much of the problem is the players and not so much the coach. This is the point that many of us have tried to make about this teams situation from the get go. It's all too easy to just lay everything on the coach as we have as a franchise and fan base.

Many were so ready to exclaim that Woody had the answers for what ailed the team and too ready to ignore the fact that teams tend to have a burst of energy just from the change itself and not due to anything tactical or inspirational that the coach does. Only time can tell just how real the improvement is or isn't. Despite the wins, the same issues still have been present just beneath the surface. It took just one tactical move to expose it all. This team can't let this spiral. They have to stop it right here tonight.

Never say winnable...you said that before the Raptors game. Granger said that. It is a curse word.

A team this talented should go into most games ready to win!!! It's OK for me to say the game is winnable. The Knicks players are the ones that need to not make statements they can't back up with supreme effort. If you talk, you'd better be prepared to play hard and back it up.

The real issue is that there was an assumption that everything was fixed and in fact the extra hustle only covered up the fact that they still have issues. Now there are new ones, because the team isn't playing at a pace that suits many of their players best. Melo may prefer a slower pace for his possessions, but overall this team needs to play faster and more aggressive.

does he need to resign?

maybe Herb Williams is the answer.

I would like to know why D'Antoni was unable to get the team motivated for the better part of four years and still is revered around here like he was the savior of this franchise.

forget D'Antoni. let me ask you why is the team still coming out flat in the 3rd quarters?

No clue. That needed to be their quarter especially the way they ended the half.

i agree. it's frustrating the **** out of me. and if it's not obvious, i don't think the coach has anything to do with it.

knick fans are hilarious, they fall so in love with these wannabe star players that they will always shaft the coach..

we got rid of two hall of fame coaches. Brown and wilkens, we fired chaney, another decent coach.. and after getting rid of those guys, how good have the knicks been since then? I can tell you? not good at all.. at what point does ownership say? maybe it is not the coach, maybe we need to stand behind our coach's.... just goes to show how much of a moron dolan is..

The first three coaches that you mentioned worked under the most dysfunctional gm in sports history. The last coach worked under one of the classiest high character NBA executives of his era. There is a huge difference between the guys experience working under Isiah and Walsh's relationship with his coach while he was here. Also, unlike Wilkins D'Antoni really did resign on his own and he wasn't stripped of his assistant coaches prior to doing this. How long should a team stick with a coach if they continue to lose? D'Antoni chose to leave but he had earned being fired long before it happened in my opinion. Hopefully ownership gives Woodson at least next year.

D'Antoni wasn't unjustly fired though, he quit. MDA did not go through the same **** as those other coaches went through and its disrespectful to them to even compare. Chaney was actually a really good coach who had Weatherspoon and Kurt Thomas as his front court while having Charlie Ward and Howard Eisley as his Pgs yet he got the best out of that group. Don Chaney would orgasm in his pants if he had Anthony, Stat, Chandler, Lin, and Jr Smith.

He doesn't require all the blame, but he deserves his share.
