“I'm a father,” (DWade, who has two sons, said Friday in Detroit). “It's support of the tragic thing that has taken place. No matter what color, race, we're all fathers.

“When you think about what that family's going through, it hits you hard and it hurts your heart to think about it. Just anything you can do, obviously we can't bring him back, but anything you can do to get behind and support is what we're doing.”

He absolutely did. There goes the theory that his prejudices didn't play a role in this.

Good for LeBron taking a stand for something he believes in. MJ famously never touched anything invloving politics or race relations. Not saying tht makes him a bad person, but it's obvious first and foremost in his mind was always his brand. Again, that's a personal choice, but it shows character for LeBron to speak out especially when his character continues to take hits from the Decision and some of the things he says.

Agreed. +1. After seeing that pic, I hate the Miami Heat a little less.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Good for Lebron. Good gesture of support, especially for something that practically happened in the Heat's backyard.

This whole story is sickening. How is this guy not in jail yet?

a bigger part than I would have thought... but do you honestly think this dude killed someone solely because he was black?

Probably not, but would he have pursued him so aggressively if he wasn't? Would he have asked questions first, if he wasn't?

Apparently the 6-3 Martin who had been suspended from school for having a bag of marijuana beat the sht out of Zimmerman and went for his gun--a 13 year old eye witness has confirmed this story. When police arrived on the scene--they found Zimmerman bleeding from the back of his head and nose. In the uS we must listen to all facts before a rush to judgement.

This is ironic. Rodney King all over again. The 4 cops were wrong, but Rodney was asking for it. Now everyone jumping on this before finding out the truth.. how sad.. Imagine another riot happen because of this? Will make everyone look stupid and the Koreans get the punishment at the end again for a non-Korean sad story. LeBron, think much?

He didn't get suspended for having a bag of marijuana it was residue found in a plastic bag inside his school bag. Also, if the dispatcher tells the guy to not follow and he does that's stupidity. The kid was scared and being followed. Who knows what happened. Maybe the kid fought Zimmerman before being shot. Not like getting followed in the rain by a dude with a gun isn't scary or anthing.

while I agree with Briggs in principle and the abstract, I am with you on this one. The wannabe cop was the agressor here. Martin was the one who could claim self defense.

Not to mention, there's a recently psychological study out that says if you have a gun on you, you're more likely to be trigger happy. From what I remember, the shrinks gave some people guns and showed them images. The ones with guns were more likely to find something hostile about the image and often thought there was a gun embedded in the image

So in the study, a shrink randomly gave somebody a gun without reason and showed them a photo or something and the people that all of a sudden had a gun for no reason reacted differently than people not given guns? Does that sound like a valid study to you? Did they also screen to match the two groups by race, sex, criminal history, history of violence, etc.?

Briggs is making a fair point. It is a very sad event that a young man has died under questionable circumstances. Even though it is an emotional situation, it would serve us best to still believe that the justice system will work until there is more concrete proof that the justice system failed.

It's stunning the lengths some people are going to defend Zimmerman.

definitely... if Martin did kick his ass, it certainly sounds like it was a justifiable act on the grounds of "self defense." I'm sorry, I'm not buying this "if you instigate and get your ass handed to you, you get to get away with murder" line of logic here

And the opposite position of jumping to conclusions making assumptions about basically a conspiratorial effort to deny justice is even more stunning.

Who's denying justice here? People, you, Briggs, are claiming that Trayvon Smith had it coming because he apparently smoked weed at some point in his life and because he defended himself from a stranger chasing him with a gun. Whereas I'm saying Zimmerman should be arrested and there should be an investigation into what happened after which we should let a judge and jury decide.

Forget the weed. Its not relevant.

If the eyewitness is legit this adds a very tragic twist.

No matter how wrong Zimmerman was for his pursuit, if he was attacked then he won't be bought up on any serious charge.

Its a tragic occurance no doubt.

Justice won't bring that young man back and even if he did attack Zimmerman, he did not have "It" coming. Two wrongs don't bring anyone back.

I hope justice is served no matter how we might prefer the outcome.

Personally I was enraged like most but if the question of if Zimmerman was attacked does change things.

Neighborhood watch protocal need to be revisted regardless. Zimmerman was wrong but Zimmerman was scared. He should not have patroling with a gun. He is not a cop.

so heres a link to the extremely reputable "ConsevativeBytes" website with a video clip from the equally reputable FOX News with the new "evidence" from yet another unnamed source (cowering behind a door).

If Zimmerman was so scared, he should have heeded the request of the 911 operator and backed off and allowed the real law enforcement to do the jobs they were paid to do. Thats what a normal citizen would have done.
