Now granted the only offense we would get with that backcourt would be off of steals but for 5 mins a game it might be worth taking a look at....

I think that would be absolutely awesome and I would definitely like to see the second unity press/trap a lot more

I think if Woody gets TD going as a defensive specialist who comes in and focuses on just one thing & one thing only (think of Novakane & the 3 ball) & manages to resurrect his game, he should get coach of the year.

As Today's Special is defense, imagine Iman Shumpert and Toney Douglas locking it down in the backcourt for a juicy five minute shift.

I hope you're right. The kid deserves a second chance.

a second chance at the bench. I don't mean to sound critical of you so, please don't take it personal but, we don't need Toni running around in circles, letting the shot clock run out before forcing a pass that leads to a turnover or chucking a bad shot. That has nothing to do with a weak shoulder and everything to do with a weak mind.

I'd rather see Walker or the Ghost that was Mike Bibby get play time before seeing him on the floor. Walker was defending (not great) but decently and was helping on the boards and just all around the good with him was better than the bad.

TD deserves a few minutes that's all I'm saying. I've never considered him a 1 but an undersized 2. TD at the 2 with Shump at the 1 for a few minutes and let's see what happens.

First off, congratulations on the birth of your son Toney!

It's unfortunate the timing of things worked the way they did. Toney could have gotten some solid minutes between the Portland game and the 1st Indy game. I'm not ready to write him off yet, but still not comfortable with giving him meaningful minutes.

Hopefully he tears it up in practice or gets some extended garbage minutes. No reason he shouldn't be able to beat out Bibby in the rotation, especially if we incorporate some more half court sets. His jumper was huge last season, post Melo trade.

If TD can play smart, something he hasn't done in quite some time, I wouldn't mind if he moves ahead of Bibby in the lineup. That's my biggest problem with his getting PT and why Bibby should play ahead of him until he can prove that he has come around.

As I said in an earlier post, he got benched for a long stretch and got some PT in the closing minutes of a blowout. Instead of showing that he understood why he was benched, Douglas jacked up on bad 3 after another, ignored his teammates for the most part, and played like he didn't learn a damn thing from the benching.

That's not a shoulder injury asserting itself, that's poor decision making asserting itself, and its why Bibby is a better fit right now. I just want TD to prove that he's not the same player that was benched. If Toney can do that then I'm all for his returning to the rotation and getting Bibby's minutes.

TD's fall from grace has been shocking- but he's a player I can never make up my mind about. On the one hand, he has a great work ethic and toughness about him- he used to be a pretty good defender too. But even when he played well last year, I remember finding him an infuriating player- dumb plays, unforced TO's and the ability to wipe out a lead in mere minutes.

I guess I'm wondering- was he actually a good player last year or did his 3pt shooting and streaky scoring just help hide his terrible flaws?

Like to see him go through Sparta and see if he can get enough boost to dunk regular would fix the biggest hole in his game.

As featured here where they added 3.5 inches to Lin's vertical.

He's a better outside shooter than he is driving to the hoop. He just has difficulty finishing around the basket.

He hit something like 300 threes last year on like 45% shooting.

The guy has a career as a sharp shooter, but his shoulder injury messed it all up.

We buried the guy, so now he is climbing out of the ground.

he could be the worst defender on the team...and that's saying something. I like that he stays in front of his man, but he doesn't stop back pedaling until the opposing guard gets an easy lay up. I like that he fights through screens, but where is the finesse...looks more like a car wreck

last season you mean (defensively). This season, his jump shot disappeared along with his defense and brain. The guy was just making dumb bonehead play after dumbass bonehead play.

His defense was non-existent and he was getting blazed by 2nd string guards.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Rookie - keen observation. The difference between Shumpert's technique on the backpedal, compared to Douglas, is like night and day. Shumpert has the ability to retreat and coil for attack. His strength is married with outstanding anticipation. Last night he read a pass before it was made and nearly had a clean breakaway.

With the way he collides into screens, it is scientific marvel that Doulgas' shoulder is not permanently dislocated.

True but if he doesn't drive he's never going to get open look and will continue to fire away from 3 feet beyond the 3 point line.
