Ultimate NYK Decision: The Coach or the Star?

The Knicks are a mess and every possibility has been explored. In the end, it seems the two main culprits are the coach, Mike D'Antoni, and the star, Carmelo Anthony.

The coach is accused of not behaving like one, being too stubborn about his system and being incapable of designing new plays to make the pieces he has work. The accusers believe he has been given enough time to win in NY and can only seem to fail. And many of those hate the fact that he doesn't preach defense. But some argue that he hasn't had enough roster continuity to make this possible. Defenders use the "Linsanity streak" as his defense to show his system works but he has a player not helping his cause.

And here we go with culprit number 2.

Carmelo Anthony, the prodigal son who returned to NY amid great hope from the fans. Some people still accuse him of being too greedy in pushing a trade to NY where the team had to give up all its depth. But somehow management found a way to restock the talent and expectations grew. But there was always the doubt that Melo would fit with Amar'e and D'antoni, and their initial record backed this up. When he went down to injury, people expected NY to lose, but then Linsanity occurred. But almost as soon as Melo came back, Linsanity stopped, and many fans can't think of any other reason than Melo and his isos and ball domination. The fact that he lacks leadership, defense and rebounding don't help his cause. But defenders argue that he is a true star, that Lin the D-Leaguer can't be compared to Melo, who has been longer in the league and has the stats to back him up.

You are given the power to do only one of two things: Fire D'Antoni and keep the team running through Melo or trade Melo and run the team through Mike's system and maybe get "Linsanity" back.

What's your choice?

Fire D'Antoni
Trade Melo

Trade Melo. They are not getting along, but moreso because of this:

And the one reason Im hopefull it happens, is not the dissecting of the Roster or anything that would make sense sports wise. Its the fact that Lin can get Dolan more money than Melo. Come on Dolan! Do what you do best. Follow the money!

By any generational measure however, that 40% field goal average sucks.

He's having a bad year to this point. I don't know the numbers off hand, but I'd like to see what they were before he started dealing with all the injuries. He started off the season playing very well.

Anyway....I think Jordan, Bird, etc are clearly a different generation. Melo is a better offensive talent than Iverson. Iverson had one of the biggest hearts in the game though. As for the current generation in terms of pure offensive skill I think he's there with Kobe, LeBron and Wade. They all have different talents and shortcomings. The other 3 have obviously learned along the way that they need to be great defenders to be Championship caliber players.

So I absolutely stand by my statement that Melo is a once in a generation type offensive player.

As bad as Melo and knickerbocker slide been its all been Carmelo poor putrid play worst of his career

with that said can't fire the whole team even allstars & perhaps if Melo been here longer I'd offer guillotine
however he's not had 1 full regular season nor camp (strike) yet. So Melo hasnt been here a full season yet
we should wait til' season end playoffs OR no-playoffs (likely).

We in NY are all about giving time & patience even 1 full yr til year's end.
Its funny when Knicks were finally in NBA 2011 playoffs for 1st time in 1000 yrs,
MELO played his game his butt off & if not for NBA 'celtic' Refrees Won 2 games but we all know as fans
didnt work that way in Knicks getting sweep out of NBA 2011 playoffs by tired Boston Celtics Team
with no Billups and injured non-Amare last season.

Its funny
Amare and Mike D'Antoni love each other but neither can lead or show some guts
like Melo did undermanned Knicks vs Celtics last season NBA playoff sweep.

When I speak of Guts I dont understate Amare was injured in NBA playoffs last season, gave it a try
GUTs is leading young teammates.

Melo Anthony tried and didnt even know 1st or last names of some Knicks.
The soft Stoudemire & Mr D'Antoni always had a Steven Nash or Melo type to cover up their cotton-soft demeanor
or sins or of things never being PERFECT for D'Antoni or Stout to be winners. Its only way for Stoudemire and MDA to exist.

*Thank you Steve Nash

Also point out, Mr 'lame' Marbury helped SUNs year they actually won few NBA games int touch west playoffs
when a young Stoudemire and Shawn Marion didnt now a hoop from their a_ss-es yet.

anyhow voted
I'm sure it goes vs majority% ..respectively

Funny to see the results of this poll and think about what happened today. Those who voted for "Trade Melo" should definitely have an empty feeling right now.

I really will miss Sammy The Bull Gravano (AKA Phil Weber). He will now go back into witness protection where he belongs.
