The Knicks looked awesome in the second half tonight. Shumpert looked extremely explosive just running down the floor to create the alley-oop opportunity - reminded me of the highlight of him from the pre-season Knicks show when he exploded around the outside of Carmelo on the break.
Speed's this guy's game... and I'm just amazing at how much raucous he causes defensively. He may not get recognition this year, but if he's able to get 25+mpg as his career progresses, he should be a regular on all-D teams. Extremely quick and precise hands.
I like Landry Fields when the match ups work - he seems to play well against maybe 20 out of 30 opposing teams. He rarely dominates, but he does what he's supposed to do and makes his teammates look better.
With that said, Shump always contributes defensively... and in games when the Knicks get out on the break, he's electric.
No disrespect to Landry Fields - because he's done a fantastic job, particularly for where he was drafted. But at this stage he looks like a solid rotation guy/lower end starter at either SG or SF.
Shump is still oozing with AS potential, particularly if he just finishes a little better... and if he shoots a little better. He can create his own shot, passes with precision, and has prototypical speed and athleticism. He seems to have the toolkit to become a better ball-handling Sprewell... but maybe he'll peak as a Tony Allen (today) clone. Don't know.
(to be fair, JR Smith has the complete package to be an AS-level scorer in the league; I haven't really seen enough of him to understand why he isn't one of those perennial 6th man candidates like an Eddie Johnson or Ricky Pierce - He's got the prototypical SG build - a la Jordan or Kobe)
