well he was never in shape. in college, he just had more mass than everyone. pretty sure he couldn't even do one 185 lbs. rep at the combine. never a good sign to be that weight and so weak heading into the pros

Good point Supreme. It reminds me of this past summer when I was finally able to break 500 pounds of squats and bench more than 370 on bench. Not that I'm bragging or anything, because I'm not. I'm just saying, the whole time I was thinking that the Lord blessed me with this superhuman strength and it would be a shame for me to waste it. I want to reiterate that this post has nothing to with that fact that Micheal Sweetney's physical accomplishments pale in comparison to the magnificence that is BIGDADDYG. I just wanted to point out how sad it is that Michael Sweetney was unable to reach his potential.

What's your height and weight.

And is this a deep barbell squat or some 3/4 **** on a smith machine?

5'10'', 218. No machines. I lift weights, I don't do virtual lifting man. Not that I'm here to brag or anything. This entire post is about Michael Sweetney's well being.

that graph says "elite" shape, not strongest men in the world.

I knew a guy in high school that we all believe to have joined the Seals. I saw him squat just under 800 once.

Elite is among the strongest in the world. Keep in my that's a deep squat, below parallel.

The guy you saw, you don't know how deep he went. It's a different ball game if you don't break parallel.

good for you. takes work ethic to hit that. I was in great shape before I went overseas. now... gotta get back to it. but am looking forward to the challenge

I don't know if a basketball player should hit those [lifting weight]:[body weight] that you did, but the big dude couldn't throw up 185 10 times? I am having a hard time believing that someoen his size couldn't do that, especially a lotto pick from Georgetown

This is an extremely sad story.

This man has battle weight issues all his life. From the time he came into Georgetown to the time he played for the Knicks he lost a ton of weight. Unfortunately he never quite got the role he deserved given his play early in his career and he flamed out from the NBA and let himself go. Sad to see. When he was in shape and motivated he was a tremendous rebounder and a good inside scorer. He would've been a lot better than Eddy Curry had we held onto him instead.

Coming up on ten years.

I did a quick search and can't believe the old posts are still available thru google.

I can't find the original "check out Sweetney's Calves" post, but this one was a classic!

It was fun back in the day. Bonn is a good sport and we all have grown up.

Even Dido is on this!

There was a point in his career where he looked unstoppable in the Post and a beast on the offensive board.

Sad. Really seemed like a nice good kid.

The guy's not dead. He's still in his 20s.

He can lose that weight in 6-9 months and be at the peak of his athleticism by the end of 2012; the sad part is that it won't happen.

I will never understand how a guy whose job it is to run up and down a court 3-4 times a week cannot stay in shape. I mean how much food is he eating??!! Damn man. Put the plate down. I sit at a desk all day and I am only 25 pounds over my optimal weight, and if I could afford to spend my days exercising, there is no way in the world I would be overweight. That is lazy on a whole new level.
