I am enjoying this run a lot but I feel a bit negative in regards to this thread. Didn't Melo do what he was supposed to do? He is getting paid a ton of money to be a part of a successful team. Is he that horrible a guy that when he says and does what he is supposed to do in a team concept for a game that it warrants heaps of praise? Also, D'Antoni gets more praise for saying "be yourself", "do what you do" etc to guys then any coach I have encountered in professional sports. Maybe it is what needed to be said and obviously he deserves credit for his teams success. I am just not sure why when guys do what they are supposed to do it merits tons of praise.

No. I am just not seeing this. Maybe I didn't think Melo fitting in was going to be as big a problem as others do.

hey thats fair. Who in the last 10 years did what they were supposed to do for this franchise? McDyess? Marbury? Isiah? Are the guys in Boston doing what they are supposed to do? Its not trivial. Lots of guys in this league. Lots less do what they are supposed to do after that. Fair?

Im praising:
a) the turnaround
b) the team chemistry and clear willingness to sacrifice
c) the entire roster plays defense
d) the team is deep and balanced
e) the team is behind the coach and buying in and playing hard in a system

All these things are rare in Knick land. No we celebrate this. I do know that deep playoff runs dont come without these things...

Once Melo gets comfy in this system, skies the limit. I wasn't all for gutting the team to get him but the pieces we have now are scary. Wouldn't doubt if the Knicks dropped 150 on somebody in the near future. We just got a glimpse of what they can do. I mean this is Lins first year for crying out loud! I think we looking at a dynasty being built here fellas, imho!

Im not a Melo fan......

But he has tried all season to do what is needed of him.

POint forward, Shoot, don't shoot, play big minutes.

All things a max player does.

Winning is not always in his hands to deliver.

Now he has to change his role again.

The process this season should make him a better player over all.

He'll be a superstar when he does super things in the limelight at big moments.

I have no complaint about him all season.

bingo... Melo in an open floor spread SSOL offense is going to be a problem? Really? And these people are paid to write their opinions?

I hated the Melo trade because the Knicks never get lucky and get good players, but they kept the right guy in Fields. The moves that made the Chandler trade possible took flat out balls that turned into a grandslam. Then we get lucky with Lin. Luck doesnt even describe it. This isnt like head from the hot girl at the pub lucky, this is like powerball lucky. If any fanbase was 'due' its this one.

When you look at the depth and talent, the system the coaches have in place, the moves this management has made... how do you not keep this group together for a couple years and see what they can do? All of them... coaches, staff, Grunwald... all of them.

He gets credit because he was accused of not being able to do these things. And its better for a player to get praised for doing these type of things then telling them that's what they are supposed to do as players will be more inspired to do it. Avoiding the drama that would come if he wasn't capable or wasn't willing.

So thank you Melo for saving us from drama.

Joan Rivers qualifies as a "girl"? Are there no standards at all in this postmodern world?

I would say Isiah did what he was supposed to do, given his management track record.

With the huge pile of smelly Melo hate that exists everywhere, a little oasis of praise is a small thing to tolerate.
That's my opinion. It's okay if you're wrong.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

I agree Fish. Melo has done everything he can to fit in. There will be some hiccups and he will need to make some adjustments but so will everyone else. Still can't find anything to hate the guy about. He's been nothing but a team guy(even with the questionable shot selection earlier in the season) since he's been here
I just hope that people will like me

You forgot a big one... Baron Davis being hurt just enough to be amnestied and scare off any of the teams under the cap, but not hurt enough to not come back and possibly make an impact this year. Its early yet, but he looked good last night, even if timing a little off and reckless. He gets a little under control, and I don't think we've ever had a better PG pair on this team in my lifetime.

And another bit of luck: JR Smith. Whatever he gives us is just gravy. But I was impressed with him last night. Crazy scrappy D. When that shot starts falling, he's gonna be a huge factor for this team.
