Isn't there a limit to how much of an annual raise you can get (like 8 or 10%). I don't think you can get $5 mil one year and $15 mil the next year.

oh fail. check out the links he posted.

That NBA Salary Cap FAQ link is very informative and breaks down what a team can offer Lin. Here is most of the section. A team is probably going to want to F*** us over so I imagine Lin gets offered a nice contract. But we will match and I don't think there are many teams with the free salary cap to offer him such a large contract.

Doubt that teams try to up the bid. First, it ties up their cap space while the Knicks decide to match, which they most likely will. Second, the owners are not going to want to screw other teams over and start a practice that unnecessarily raises player salaries...something they fought hard to limit by going through the lockout.

Lin will be a Knick until its clear he's keeping us back from winning or he molests children

1) he's a marketing monster. Pretty healthy Asian community in the ticket buying ration around here. Plus the overseas stuff. This kid is a cash COW. His NBA salary doesnt matter to the Knicks.

2) he's a good player and his work ethic + court vision are a nice pairing and rare commodity.

Since when does money matter to the Knicks? With Chandler/Melo/Amare in the fold cap space means nothing.

If you were not aware of it, the recent CBA changed the waiting period from 14 to 7 days, regarding matching an offer sheet. I do hope teams are honest about things though. Good point with the lockout.

FishMike - I agree Lin isn't going anywhere, clearly. And yes, money isn't an object, it actually a huge point... I would even go so far as to say, that Dolan see's the $$$ on the wall and will at ALL COSTS get this team to be one that works well with Lin. I think our other "stars" might be seeing that since they also have a business sense.

Thanks for the responses folks. I wasn't worried about him leaving the Knicks unless he was an unrestricted free agent.

Fish, you're right one about the only ways he's leaving. The Knicks will orchestrate whatever deals they have to ensure that he stays in the orange and blue, which is what they should do.

Andrew, I hope you're right. As a restricted FA, Lin can't be wooed by other teams, right?

My next question is how long of a deal does Jeremy sign at the MLE if the Knicks don't offer a deal like the one detailed in the earth's post?

Does he risk a one year contract and hope he stays health and produces at or near this same high level or does he sign a longer deal with a player option/team that he can opt out of to sign a bigger/better deal? The latter potentially leaves him open to unrestricted free agency and the Knicks have to hope that he isn't lured or wooed away.

Regardless of how, I just hope they figure out a way to keep him and that he meshes well with Melo and Stat. With Lin CP and Williams (or PG in general) are no longer a concern. Then it's really just about...well, everyone learning to play well together. Fields is the perfect SG as this team is currently set up, getting his points "around" Melo, Lin, and Stat. Chandler is similar in that he's a great big defensive body that gets his points where he can without needing them draw or plays called for him. On paper This team has reached a whole new level of depth that wasn't even there before the Melo trade.

My only sadness is that they won't be able to get Wilson back next year since the MLE will be needed to keep Lin. That said, Lin over Wilson any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You would think that Lin would appreciate the situation he is in , the opportunity that we gave him and sign a reasonable contract.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

I think we have to extend D'Antoni if we want to lock up Lin for extra years.

True. To my mind, they go together like land and the ocean.
